5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this book!, October 19, 2008
This review is from: Lead by Example: 50 Ways Great Leaders Inspire Results (Hardcover)
I love John's work. This book provides great insight that leaders can use. It doesn't have to read 'all at once' but can be digested in 'pieces'. This will make a great reference book for leaders.

A very good book which should be required reading for all new supervisors and managers. Very down to earth, and in many ways just plain common sense, but presented in such a way that that it could easily be used as a guide and reference book. I liked it so well that I orded another John Baldoni book on Communication.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets to the Heart of Leadership, October 24, 2008

This is a terrific book. The title, Lead by Example, says it all, and given that approach, the author really gets it right. Books on leadership typically offer advice on strategy and outcomes, message and vision. But Baldoni gets to the heart of the nature of leadership: the living idea of serving one's organization and followers--that is, by example. Baldoni shows how leading by example is the true lesson to be absorbed by modern-day leaders. The chapter on "Being Tough" alone is worth the price of the book, given the uncertainties and turmoil in today's economic climate. I also love the design of this book, and the four clear guideposts the author provides for the reader: Set the Right Example, Act the Part, Handle the Tough Stuff, and Put the Team First. I highly recommend putting this book on your leadership shelf!

This is one of the better books I've read on leadership. It avoids going into scientific depth or complicated terms. Easy read and hence easier to remember the message.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good primer on leadership points, February 16, 2010

Firstly, i will have to admit that I have not finished the book yet. I am in the middle of reading but I know enough of what has been set out so far in the book to comment on its contents. From the chapters that I've read i've found the book very well formulated but my criticism is that it lacks some positive examples of the strategies outlined in the book. It would be great to read through the theories of what makes a good leader (which was done just great) but then to follow up with examples of where it worked and didn't work. To the author's defence, he has put in examples of areas where a lack of certain skills has brought downfall. I would like to see empirical evidence of it succeeding.
Nonetheless there are many managers and would be managers that I can think of that would be wise to heed the words printed in this book. Unlike many management books this one is for keeps.

Lead by Example: 50 Ways Great Leaders Inspire Results

ONCE AGAIN, John Baldoni has created an easy and practical read about the essential attributes and behaviors ALL leaders need to exhibit to be successful! While leaders need to consistently set the right example, act the part, handle the tough stuff, and put their team first, these behaviors could not be more important during times of turmoil and uncertainty when leadership is needed the most. So, like virtually all of John's books, consider this one as another resource and reminder of how you want to present yourself and what you want to do on a daily basis - for yourself as a leader, your team, and your organization.
