5.0 out of 5 stars I've been waiting 22 years for this re-release!!!!!
BW's first self-titled album from 1971 was one of my most fond vinyls when I started college in 1977 in Texas. I somehow lost the album in 1980 and have dreamed of getting it back ever since. It seemed like the recordings were somehow lost or tied up by his heirs after his death and I was afraid I'd never get them again until now!!! So excited to have a copy (esp...

So excited to have a copy (esp. tracks 13-22). These are some of the sweetest and most moving ballads ever written. Nothing like it. This CD should be at the top of your "oldies I gotta-have" list. I would have gladly paid $100 for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars B.W. Stevenson - 1972, September 4, 2005

Okey, being a vinyl collector, I have the original LSP-4865 self titled release of B.W. Stevenson in excellent condition.

I first heard this album in my friend's car through his 8-track player back in the summer of 1972. I had to ask him on who this artist was for I've never heard him before. He popped out the tape, and really not into country music, found that this was sort of an exception for both of us.

I loved the way he presents his songs in a smooth and soft ballade form-in a storytelling way. All of the songs were very sing-a-long type and the last one "On my Own" was the best of all on that album.

I have three copies of his last album "Lifeline" before his life ended suddenly in 1988.

"My Maria" will live on forever.

thx-

5.0 out of 5 stars HAving been waiting a long time for this, November 28, 2004
This review is from: Lead Free: Bw Stevenson (Audio CD)
Having grown up in Texas, was a teenager when my brother turned me onto B W Stevenson. Whoever tracked this record got it backwards. Start at track 13 and go forward (the first album) and then start at track 1 for the second album. Play the "Lonesome Song" through head phones and be amazed as the wind blows through your head. The man was a master at expressing songs of love, longing, loss. The first album (13 and on) is my personal favorite but unfortunately he didn't obtain anywhere near the fame he should have recieved until recording "My Maria". Too bad that he didn't live long enough to record more. If you buy, enjoy this amazing artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long awaited CD, June 2, 2004

B.W. Stevenson died too young. He was a giant talent and it is good to see his great album "Lead Free" re-released in CD format, coupled with his "BW STevenson" album. I agree with the other reviewer about Stevenson and his work needs to be revived for newer generations. In a way he is like a country version of Jim Croce, another great talent who died before his time. Let's hope that other BW Stevenson albums will be released in CD format.

5.0 out of 5 stars The orginal BW debut album was a masterpiece, April 25, 2007
This review is from: Lead Free: Bw Stevenson (Audio CD)
The orginal BW Stevenson album was a masterpiece and at least 20 years ahead of its time. RCA didn't know how to market the album because the only thing close to it in those days was James Taylor's Sweet Baby James on Warner Brothers records. For the most part the ground work hadn't been set for country/rock/folk/pop music.
BW Stevenson along with Taylor, Willie Nelson, The Eagles, Loggins and Messina, and a handful of country and rock/pop artist were creating what would later become that sound that we know today.
This CD is a great buy because it not only features the orginal debut album but it also includes his second album, "Lead Free."
Both of these recording are very strong with well crafted songs and BW had a voice that came right out of heaven.
If you haven't already purchased this CD I suggest you hurry and do so because you never know how long it's going to be around...it took 20 years just to get these songs on CD so what are you waiting for?

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wait is Over!, April 24, 2009

I have loved BW Stevenson ever since I first heard his songs coming from a friend's record player in a dorm room at North Texas State in 1974. For years, I've wanted those songs on a CD so I could listen to them again (our record player is now in the closet somewhere!). Just last weekend, we introduced BW to our son, who is 28 years old and he was blown away -- had never heard of him! I'm so glad these albums are now released for others who've never heard BW Stevenson before to enjoy his music. His songs are soulful and thoughtful, imaginatively written. He is a classic Texas artist, and yet at the same time he is unique. I hope that many more people can now discover his music, even though there is far too little of it.

I grew up listening to Buckwheat; my parents would play this record on long Texan nights and then later during long Montana winters. As I don't have a record player, I haven't been able to hear this album in 10 years, and now it's finally out on CD! This has to be one of the best albums of all-time. It's not really country, it's not really folk; it's more like just one man singing his thoughts in a haunting, beautifully spare way. I will treasure this forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars 1972 Tripin For free, December 18, 2009
This review is from: Lead Free: Bw Stevenson (Audio CD)
I got his self titled album in 1972, and have loved every minute of it. "Lonsome Song", Texas Moring" and "On My Own" have meanings for a young Army veteran trying to fit into a changing world, with "A Long Way to Go" on "Highway One". But "Home Again" hit me hard, it's one of those songs that has a 'special' meaning , like Simon & Garfunkels "Home Word Bound". A time when young men left home healthy and inocent, and came 'home' used up and broken, never to be the same 'inside'. But had to go on, life doesn't stop to let you get off. Thanks Louis Charles Stevenson III, for making the trip home easier, it takes time and healing, "Say What I Feel".
I recently slid out this vinyl and have been playing it for a few days. The worst of times at the best of times.

If you lived in Texas in the early 70's and listened to the great Texas singer/songwriters of the day, you know who this guy is....taken way too early from this world...and to listen to these songs today, they are just as laid back now as they were then...and so Texas music 70's style...AA++
