More About the Author

Todd Gongwer is first and foremost a husband and a father. Beyond that, he has spent nearly twenty years developing his expertise in leadership, team, and cultural dynamics through a broad range of experiences spanning the world of business and athletics. He has held a number of senior executive level positions in companies ranging from entrepreneurial start-up to public entity. He also served for over a decade as an assistant college basketball coach for one of the most successful programs in the country during the 1990's.

After spending five years in a senior executive level position charged with overseeing the leadership and cultural transformation of a large manufacturing firm, Todd wrote and released LEAD...for God's Sake!, a parable for finding the heart of leadership. The book takes readers on a compelling journey deep into the heart of leadership where the answers to some of the most important questions in leadership, and in life, can be found. Upon receiving rave reviews from hundreds of leaders in the world of business, sports, and academics Todd began speaking frequently to groups on the topic of peace, passion, and purpose in leadership. Ultimately, Todd challenges his listeners to think deeper about the subject of leadership and what lies at the very core of their purpose in both leadership and life.

If you are looking for a unique and inspiring book on leadership which instead of drawing on the usual role models of our day, focuses on the best role model ever for "servant leadership, Jesus Christ, then you will love Todd Gongwer's book, "Lead for God's sake" Lead for God's Sake. Leadership is about inspiring not forcing people to embrace and willingly follow one's vision for whatever organization it is one is attempting to lead. In today's world we tend to divide the secular from the spiritual and as a result, we seem to have somehow lost sight of the fact that we can and should call on God to help provide us with the inspiration, guidance and humility to lead for God's sake, not our own! This book was the most practical application of this principal I have ever read! Set in the hard charging world of competitive athletics it follows the lives of a number of folks as they learn the valuable lesson that when we lead for God's sake our life can change as we change the lives of those around us. Reading this book has been an important part of my own spiritual journey. I highly recommend that you make it part of yours.

If you enjoy learning new concepts on leadership and being able to apply them in both your personal and work life, then "Lead for God'Sake should be at the top of your read list right now. Todd Gongwer, the author, does a masterful job of bringing the fictional characters to life and uses them in communicating his beliefs on the true definition of a leader. The ending is one that is extremely heart felt. It is a book you will want to read from start to finish and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking to take away some unique ideas that can impact the lives of others at home, at work or in any personal relationship they may have.

Format: Hardcover
I read this book toward the end of January, early February - a time in my life that found me overwhelmed in life and underwhelmed in living with purpose. I began reading just to read another book on leadership and found myself in the midst of a book that inspired and challenged my life to live with broader prospective and better aligned purpose. The literary approach the author uses "fictional story" (or was it) to teach "non-fictional" leadership principles. As I read, I began to project myself into the lives of the main characters.

I jotted down an excerpt from the book in my journal. The author, Todd Gongwer writes:

"Leadership always involves influence which in one way or another flows from the character of an individual, we would be much better served were we to begin our own journey of leadership by defining just what leadership should mean, based on the character we believe is best to display. Live an aligned life! We should not expect to ever lead others to a level of true excellence in leadership without being willing to model that same level of excellence in our own lives. Character influences character!"

A must read!

If you had 6 months to live, how would you use your time? When you think about it, why don't we live every day with that thought in mind since none of us really know how many days or years we may have? This is a great read that stimulates one to think about our priorities and what's really important in life. It has taken me 63 years of living to grasp these concepts. In one really interesting and readable book, Todd Gongwer has captured the essence of finding purpose and joy in life. Well done.

I can't imagine that anyone can walk away from this story without being moved by the reminders of the real importance of our everyday lives and love and influence of those around us.

I'm not a big reader but found this book to be an easy read with fascinating developments throughout the book. After completing this story, I felt compelled to want to share this beautiful story with the people close to me.

This was truly a most wonderful Leadership read. I truly loved it and recommend it. Phil Philippsen
