Book Description

Shiloh Griffin has no identity outside of her roles as pastor’s wife and mom. Some days that is enough. But not always. Particularly when she is partnered with the always confident, always gracious Jade Smith on a church ministry project. Rather than shying away from God in her nervousness, Shiloh clings to Him, seeking every day to redeem herself. When an opportunity arises for her to teach music at a local high school, she thinks maybe it’s just the thing to give her more significance.

Then Shiloh begins mentoring Monica, a fifteen-year-old student. When Monica learns she is pregnant, Shiloh must confront her own darkest secret in the desperate decision facing the teen. If she turns away, this teen’s life—and her soul—could be in jeopardy. If she decides to stand up and help, she knows she’s the one who risks losing everything.

Stacy Hawkins Adams’s second book in the Winds of Change series finds Shiloh at a life-changing crossroads: keep her halo intact, or lose her honor to save the girl’s.

"Elegantly emotional and intriguing, the story reaches deep to gently touch the soul." —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

5.0 out of 5 stars Forgiving Your Sins = God's Grace August 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Lead Me Home was a beautiful story about forgiving yourself. We all carry around sins of the past, and while we may have been forgiven by God, forgiving ourselves seems to be much harder sometimes. Shiloh is the picture perfect preacher's wife and it seems like she has the world by the tail. What people do not see is the guilt she carries from her past. Shiloh takes on a new job of teaching music in a high school for a short time. She falls in love with the students and teaching. One of her students, discovers that she is in trouble. She turns to Shiloh for some help and Shiloh realizes that she must reveal her past to help this girl make the right decisions for herself.

I thought this book was a fantastic look at the psychological warfare that goes on in our minds. While we ask for forgiveness from our Father, we still carry that guilt and have to find ways to forgive ourselves. The other part of this story was about judging people based on their outside looks and actions. Too often we do not have the whole story. This again was a good lesson. People do things for the right reasons, but to others they may not appear to be sincere. God knows our hearts, and while we may not be perfect with the execution of His plan, He does honor our efforts. Learning to listen to God and helping someone else become more like Christ is what we are suppose to do. Shiloh learned this lesson with Jade. I loved how Adams brings about awareness of the price of hearing aids and how little is covered by insurance.
This was a great read that reveals things to you so you can be a better person. My thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a free ebook to read and review.

4.0 out of 5 stars An open and transparent read July 29, 2013
By Lindsay
"Lead Me Home" is the first book I have read by author Stacy Hawkins Adams. The first sentence on the back page description of the book intrigued me... "Shiloh Griffin has no identity outside of her role's as pastor's wife and mom." I find this to be true in some element for so many women, including myself. We may not all be a pastor's wife, but I find that I hear this type of sentiment from many stay-at-home moms.

Shiloh has dedicated herself to her husband, four sons and church family. One day, Shiloh is presented with an opportunity to become a substitute music teacher for a local school. This unexpected opportunity began to pave the way for the plan that God had for Shiloh's life. I was able to connect with Shiloh's character because I have personally experienced how your life can change with one phone call. The important message given in this book is to follow God's leading. As God leads, FOLLOW!

I enjoyed how this book was in our modern day and time. It helps me to relate to the characters much more. It was such a blessing to see how Shiloh was human! She had so many similar thoughts and feelings like I have had. She struggled with "Jade", yet Shiloh followed God's promptings in how to interact with this lady. If Shiloh had chosen to not listen to the Holy Spirit prompting her, she would have missed out on great blessings and on the amazing ability to help another sister in Christ out.

I would definitely recommend this book. Stacy's style of writing is different than I've read before, but I found myself enjoying this book very much. I read it within 2 days. We all know that can be hard to do as busy mom's.

I received this complementary copy of "Lead Me Home" from Booksneeze and was in no way paid for this review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Long But Not Bad July 27, 2013
I am not familiar with Stacy Hawkins Adams works or the "Winds of Change" series, but the plot of the book looked intriguing, so took a chance. One thing that made me check it out was the main character's concern that her role as pastor's wife and mom of some boys was not enough for her, particularly with a successful professional sister. Whatever the ultimate decision, it is interesting to examine such issues.

To provide a thumbnail sketch of the plot. Shiloh Griffin is out of sorts, the book starting with a bit of foreshadowing having to do with her having trouble a musical piece. Some "shame" is pressing on her soul as well. We learn about that later. First, she volunteers part-time to teach music at a local high school, while some drama is going on at her church, including involving her women's church group. This goes on in the background while something deeper -- that forces her to come clean -- occurs with a student, who finds out that she is pregnant.

Now, this is a conservative Christian novel, so the "proper" path involving pregnancy is well known. I won't address how Stacy and the student's situation turned out, but the first few pages of the book should be a pretty good hint on at least one of them. But, that isn't the only thing that is weighing on Stacy's mind -- she did more than one questionable thing as a teenager with lingering results. Spoiler here -- I saw no need for her to tell all of this to each member of her family like this, including to her children. I see the value of coming clean, but at some point, come on. Also, the student's fate was something of a cop-out.

All considered? I thought the writing a bit hackneyed though it kept your interest. I think it dragged on too long -- it could have been shorter.
