Not Worth The Re-Issue,
By
This review is from: Lead Me On (Audio CD)
I'm a Big Fan Of Maxine Nightingale And Was Pleased To See That They Had Released The Lead Me On LP on CD. But To Tell You The Truth, It's Not Worth It... Even At A Low Cost. The Sound Is Very Bad, Alot Of Hiss and The Sound Is Muffled (Sounds Like It Came From A Cassette That That I Might Have Recorded Years Back)Not From The Original Masters. The Track Lead Me Os Is On Several Compilations, And They Sound Pristine As Aposed To This CD. There Is A Bonus Track 9,Not Listed On The CD, But The Track 8 Is Really The Bonus Track, Thery Messed Up On The Pressing.
I Really Don't Recommend It! Unless You Don't Care About The Audio Quality.

Very Good album. Horrible Sound Quality.,

I can't believe the people at Razor & Tie records actually thought releasing a re-issue that sounds like it was transferred from a cheap record player was a good idea. It is the worst sounding re-issue I have ever heard. Maxine Nightingale and her fans deserve much better than this.

Classic album- Horrific sound quality,

Buyer beware...the other reviewers are correct. The sound quality is so poor you would almost think this release is a joke. Where is the quality control at razor & tie? What happened? "Lead Me On" is on numerous compilations, and the sound quality is excellent. Razor & Tie must have gotten the wrong "master tapes". Actually, not only is the sound so poor, it appears that the tracks are in mono, with only one original channel playing in both ears! If you don't believe me, find "Lead Me On" on any compilation, waste your money on this, then compare. I'm not kidding. To top it off, the track listing is incorrect! Of all the times I've read these reviews, this is the first time I have been motivated to write one. What a disappointment. The sound is really that bad. Unbelievable.

Disaster!,

Only buy this if you, like me, had to have it on CD. The sound is *astonishingly* awful. No excuse. Why this artist is so obscure and so difficult to obtain on CD is a mystery.

I Own the LP that this CD is based on. I even have a 45 of "Lead me on" with "Love me Like you Mean it" as a B side. Other reviewers aparrently discovered what I did upon listening to this CD. It is recorded/mastered in MONO SOUND. Is this the end of the world? No, but it is a bit dull considering the rather wild and rich stereo sound the music was actually recorded in. Had I known then what I know now about this disk I might have waited for a better alternative. FOR DIEHARD OR TONE DEAF FANS ONLY!

Terrific & Upbeat Songs,
This review is from: Lead Me On (Vinyl)
Maxine's 3rd album is loaded with upbeat , fast paced songs, much more than her previous 2 albums. Things start off in a frenetic pace with the rockin' HIDEAWAY, a song with boundless energy & a very catchy chorus. That it was not released as a single is puzzling. The whole album is dominated by uptempo songs, making it the most pop-dance oriented of all her albums. Ray Parker Jr. wrote and produced 2 of the songs on here , the sprightly pop song [ BRINGING OUT ] THE GIRL IN ME and the rock based LOVE ME LIKE YOU USED TO. I find this album more satisfying than her other albums, with it's original material and more rockin' pace. Her big ballad hit, LEAD ME ON, which went Top 5 in 1980 is here and is a beautifully song song with a change of pace. The closer YOU ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE WORLD is a mid-tempo light funk rocker, which the 5th Dimension previously recorded . The album sported a more modern new wavish look to compliment the music inside. All in all , a very good album that fans of pop/soul/dance would love.

Horrible Sound! The Quality is Poor!,

With the exception of the hit single "Lead Me On", the rest of the material is dull and uninspiring. Terribly produced and the sound quaility is awful! Buyer beware!

Badly Mastered in Mono,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I agree with most of the other negative reviewers here. This was an engineering error, no doubt, but something that Razor & Tie should have caught before sending out this CD to the marketplace. A bad mark on them!

It is what it is,
This review is from: Lead Me On (MP3 Download)
I haven't listened to other versions of "Lead Me On" that appear on other compilations critically, so I couldn't say for sure if the sound quality is any better than the original version. Granted the sound quality of the original version of "Lead Me On" isn't great, but it's the same version (as far as I can tell) as the 45 version I've listened to thousands of times. I've listened to samples of "Lead Me On" that appear on other compilations on Amazon.com, and clearly they are not the original version, it's not the same take. To me music is all about memories, and I'll take the lower sound quality original any day.
