Biography

To call Block a singer-songwriter is to under-estimate the importance of story-telling in his songs. Influenced by the Beat poets (but not derivative or cliche like so many East Village crooners) his songs tell stories of Village gentrification, fake punk rockers, the illusion of an easy marriage, songs that have a sense of truth because of Block's own life experience. He emerged from the… Read more in Amazon's Block Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Block: Where are you?, February 8, 2003

This review is from: Lead Me Not Into Penn Station (Audio CD)
I stumbled upon Block one evening on a whim when we decided to check out who was playing at Eddie's Attic here in Decatur, Ga and his music blew the crowd away! His anti-folk, tongue-in-cheek approach to music writing was a little unusual for such a folk-centric, girls-holding-hands place like Decatur, but it worked. I got to have a short conversation at the end of the show with Block and pick up his debut CD, "Lead Me Not into Penn Station" and I went on my way. A year later, I saw that his second CD, "Timing is Everything", was out so I picked it up as well. Since then, I've grown addicted to these two albums. I really love their mix of folk, grung, rock, and witty lyrics. I only wish Block would come out with a third CD. We can only wait.
