Powers and Maltbia have both made a valuable contribution to the field of Executive Coaching. This well researched volume contains a number of valuable tools and resources that I apply in my coaching practice. While some books on related topics seem to present interesting anecdotal stories designed to "hook" the reader on more training by the author, Powers and Maltbia are generous with complete frameworks and academic standard references that give depth, practical application, and credibility to their methodology. If you plan to own one book on working with Cultural Differences and Diversity in your coaching practice, this needs to be it. As an educator, and the inspired mind behind the Columbia University Coaching Certification Program, Maltbia draws on his broad experience and business acumen to illustrate and explain each concept with an evidence based foundation and easy to read clarity. I had the privilege to study with both authors at Columbia University from 2007-2008 and know their commitment to the profession of coaching is amazing.

This book is extraordinarily well-researched and chock full of case examples to edify the theory in the real world. Maltbia and Power take us through the state-of-the art in the field and raise the bar immeasurably to guide diversity leaders, who IMHO should include all of us. The authors, "yin and yang" coaches and mentor faculty, write with clarity, consistency and cogency, presenting 12 chapters or "steps" (A.P. is a higher power.) to achieve "breakthrough performance" with diversity leadership.

Emergent leaders in any organization--executives, team leaders and players, or coaching practitioners-- will want this book in their library if not on their desktop.

Format: Paperback
The information contained in this relatively small book is more complete than you will find in full-size text books. The brilliance of the material provides an in-depth understanding of culture and its relation to the workplace. The chapters are content focused and clearly convey accurate information that provides the leader with a complete overview of the issues involved in leveraging diversity. [...]
