Emotional Intelligence for leaders made simple,
By
This review is from: Leaders' Playbook: How to Apply Emotional Intelligence-Keys to Great Leadership (Hardcover)
I use this book and other tools developed by Dr. Nadler in leadership development and coaching I provide and in my work in the Organizational Consulting Office at Edwards AFB and in private practice. The Leader's Playbook gives leaders the necessary tools to move their talents and strengths to a new and more effective level. He helps leaders to have a better understanding of "derailers" that can take even the most famous leaders into downfall. Using these tools will help every leader. If every leader were to grow in their emotional intelligence it would have an amazing impact on - not just the workplace - but our society! From Wikipedia, I submit these excerpts regarding leadership: "The ability to affect human behaviour so as to accomplish a mission designated by the leader" also "One of the differentiating factors between Management and Leadership is the ability or even necessity to Inspire. A Leader, one who can instill passion and direction to an individual or group of individuals, will be using Psychology to affect that group either consciously or unconsciously." I would say not psychology -- but their own personal mastery of emotional intelligence. Just read the book, apply what you read and see change happen!

Excellent leadership guide,
This review is from: Leaders' Playbook: How to Apply Emotional Intelligence-Keys to Great Leadership (Hardcover)
I rely on many of the ideas and techniques from Leaders' Playbook in delivering leadership workshops. It provides the kind of real-world guidance that is so often missing from leadership books. The tools and techniques are immediately applicable, and I've seen managers and leaders make tremendous gains from using these "plays" with their teams. This is an excellent resource for anyone looking to develop their leadership skills - from those new to a leadership role to the experienced leader looking to expand their tool kit.

A must read on developing emotional intelligence (EI) ...,
This review is from: Leaders' Playbook: How to Apply Emotional Intelligence-Keys to Great Leadership (Hardcover)
While there are hundreds of references, books, and articles based on Daniel Goleman's conceptualization of Emotional Intelligence (EI), I found Dr. Nadler's Leader's Playbook to be one of the most practical and helpful. Not only does he include detailed discussions of EI "stars" and the competencies that make them stars, but more importantly he also includes specific tools and strategies that coaches, managers, counselors, and others can use to help turn others into EI stars. Additionally, there are excellent assessment tools (e.g., EI Star Profile, Derailer Detector) that leaders or executive coaches and others will want to include in their toolboxes. His discussion of the "Assumption Ladder" and the "Emotional Audit" are two techniques/tools that I have personally added to my "toolbox," used, and have found this material, as well as so much more, extremely helpful.

Thanks to Relly Nadler for providing a practical tool for many of us who are certified in EI through the Hay Group and were still searching for support materials to utilize when either coaching or training. I have purchased numerous books and other resouces on this topic -- the Leaders' Playbook is one of the best!

Leaders' Playbook = Increases the Return on Investment from Executive Coaching,

This review is from: Leaders' Playbook: How to Apply Emotional Intelligence-Keys to Great Leadership (Hardcover)
Daniel Goleman defines Emotional Intelligence (EI) in terms of understanding you, managing yourself, understanding others, and managing others. (Emotional Intelligence (EI) by Daniel Goleman 1995). Sounds easy? So why are we not all practicing it? I believe it is because we often don't see in ourselves, what we can see in others, and that we are limited to what we already know! If you are even remotely interested in the concept of Emotional Intelligence and how to ensure you understand develop and maintain these qualities, then do yourself a favour and get a copy of Leaders' Playbook by Reldan S Nadler, Psy.D.
Relly , I believe is one of the world's foremost Executive Coaches. He is based in the United States. I had the privilege and pleasure of studying with Relly on two occasions in 2008 and more recently had the pleasure of his expert guidance in a Consultative Coaching teaching experience as part of my Executive Coaching certification program in 2009. I believe that by providing us with the Leadership playbook, Relly readily shares his wisdom and experience not only with his readers, but also, by his practical `realistic applications' approach to help both leaders, and those of us who, have now, as successful business leaders, gone into the Executive Coaching profession. It is a great resource to help us to further inspire, empower and motivate our clients. Actually if I am being honest, I would rather keep Relly's book a secret! It is a precious `jewel' of resources. As a direct consequence of acquiring his book, I can now offer my clients' .an `invaluable' set of tools and techniques. But knowing that sharing our experiences is all for the greater good of our global community I am reluctantly delighted to provide a recommendation for Relly's book. If we are truly passionate about making the world and business a great place by focusing more on becoming even greater leaders, than we were before, then this book is a must! In my experience as a leader, just when you think you have got it all fathomed out, you can always expect another challenge from the left field. This is the extra 10% that we should always be searching for in our quest as `great' leaders. Relly shows and teaches us how to close that gap time and time again. Rather than being limited by the boundaries of what they only know; now my clients are already achieving immediate results from some of the fantastic tools and techniques Relly offers his readers. The Assumptions Ladder has been readily embraced by a number of my clients as a `must have' in the preparation and planning and communication of their decisions. Remember though to take a measured approach and introduce these techniques; not all at once, and not on a one size fits all approach, but rather see its beauty in that it allows you to pick and choose the tools and techniques to suit your individual client's leadership situation. I recently raised the important need for emotional intelligent leadership from the Chair of our Boards. Using the experience of 3 very experienced CEO's we were able to demonstrate the importance of bringing this issue and need for EI skills development to light now. Each of our participants took away their own copy of Relly's `Derailer Detector' with the encouragement to test themselves and their direct reports on just how `emotional intelligent' they are as opposed to what their job actually requires. We certainly had the audience sitting on the edge of their seats wanting more! As a direct result of reading and learning from the Leaders' Playbook, I am able to more uniquely tailor my client's executive leadership programs and we have more fun. In addition the Leaders' Playbook is a fabulous aid to my own personal and professional development. Buy it now! I have just bought my second copy! Ann-Marie Docherty. Great Resource Book for Leadership Development,
By
This review is from: Leaders' Playbook: How to Apply Emotional Intelligence-Keys to Great Leadership (Hardcover)
The Leader's Playbook is the first resource book I grab off the shelf if I am asked to facilitate any kind of leadership or team-building seminar. Nadler's book is spot on when it comes to identifying and developing the 5 key EQ competencies effective leaders need to possess. This book works equally well as a resource for developing teams, and capitalizing on the individual strengths of the team members. The format is cleanly organized and easy to follow. Under each of the 5 competencies it offers up specific tools, strategies, questions, team-building exercises, and examples of well-known leaders who exhibit these EQ traits. The Leader's Playbook can be read for depth & understanding around the idea of EQ in the workplace, and as well, it can be a quick resource to help guide, troubleshoot, or motivate individuals and teams toward more productivity and fulfillment.

Many other reviews of this fine book go on at great length extolling the virtues of Dr. Nadler's "Leaders' Playbook," and I agree with them, having just these thoughts to add: I have something approaching 100 books on leadership on my shelves. "Leaders' Playbook" is the one I use the most in my coaching practice. It is practical, useful and full of great ideas that you can actually implement to help your clients.
Instead of buying yet another book that explains a great new way to think, or more likely, another variation on one of the standard approaches, buy this book!

Leaders' Playbook,
By
This review is from: Leaders' Playbook: How to Apply Emotional Intelligence-Keys to Great Leadership (Hardcover)
An important contribution to leadership literature, Reldan Nadler's Leaders' Playbook is a valuable guide for acquiring and enhancing emotional and social intelligence.
Writing from deep experience, Nadler provides both beginners and seasoned leaders with a range of case studies to reflect upon, and sound practices to apply when interacting with others. I have found this book especially useful in teaching and coaching both emerging and experienced leaders; they consistently report and demonstrate that Nadler's perceptive insights and exercises have led to positive changes in their thinking and behavior. Particular favorites are the materials on "star performance" and "derailers." An experience-based, highly practical manual fusing emotional intelligence with leadership skills, The Leaders' Playbook is a first-rate resource for all who lead. Karen Jambeck, Ph.D.

Great Tools and Resources for Developing the Emotional Intelligence of Leaders from a Master,
This review is from: Leaders' Playbook: How to Apply Emotional Intelligence-Keys to Great Leadership (Hardcover)
The concept of emotional intelligence became popular after the immense success of Daniel Goleman's book in 1995, Emotional Intelligence, Why It Can Matter More Than IQ.
Unlike IQ, which is unchanging from childhood on, emotional intelligence can be developed. In fact, it usually does become greater with age and maturity. The importance of developing one's emotional intelligence is essential to success in the workplace. Utilizing the power and energy of one's emotions leads to high motivation, and improves problem-solving and decision-making. The Leaders' Playbook is a treasure trove of actionable strategies to develop emotional intelligence. If you want to improve self-confidence, teamwork, collaboration, interpersonal communication and empathy this great resource will show you how. It is the most clear, precise and pragmatic book on how to enhance performance by developing key emotional intelligence competencies that I have read. Whether you are a company leader, coach, consultant or individual performer Leaders' Playbook wisely provides essential tips to help you excel. My executive coaching and leadership development clients love this book. Dr. Maynard Brusman Consulting Psychologist and Executive Coach |
