Essential for Communication and Leadership,

This review is from: Leadership: A Communication Perspective, Fourth Edition (Paperback)
This readable book provides a broad and effective synthesis of communication and leadership research-based theories. The self-analysis measures are excellent for helping the reader to improve skills. Thought-provoking work. Although appropriate as an undergraduate text, the book also works at the graduate level. We have many students entering graduate work who lack a background in communication or leadership studies. This book give enough depth and breadth to get people started and get majors into more research. I like the global perspective. The instructional support materials are tops. Clearly, one of my favorite texts!

Current, cogent, informative, and relevant, are just a few adjectives to describe this wonderful book. The analyses of the different theories and models of leadership show the authors deep awareness of the subject. I find this volume to be enriching in so many ways. Whether you are in politics, sports, education, or religion, this book will greatly assist your leadership development.

I hate when books give me a bunch of theories and never give me examples of leaders that use these types of leadership styles. That could of been added. The case studies were interesting.

Having taken a handful of leadership courses toward my pursuit of an M.Div, it seems like much of the material on the study/practice/theory of leadership is very overlapping. Hackman and Johnson's approach in this book is refreshing, and they mix theory with practical, real life examples. If you are interested in developing your leadership abilities, check it out...you're bound to take something from it.

This book is very informative as to how successful leaders lead, and succeed in what they do. It helped me to build and improve on my own leadership skills.

A waste of money. This book is nothing more than a collection of obtuse papers and has little to no value in or out of the classroom.
