From the Back Cover

Businesses today have a vital need to create self-directed employees--individuals who can positively and progressively fill leadership roles at every level of their organizations. But where will all these leaders come from? Award-winning leadership practitioner Dr. Peter Dean asserts that wherever interaction exists, so does the opportunity for leadership. Employees who share positive intentions, creative ideas, and laudable goals or who express insights that allow others to work beyond the status quo are, according to Dean, "everyday, everywhere leaders" who can and should be tapped due to their remarkable potential.

Leadership for Everyone reveals how you can become such an influencer, mentor, and teacher, regardless of your title or position. Dean explains why leaders exist at all levels of the company--from the shop floor to the boardroom--and gives you a proven framework for asserting yourself as a leader in any situation. Whether you communicate with coworkers, managers, suppliers, or customers, Dean shows you how to practice leadership with every interaction, providing tools and advice you can use immediately to expand your influence and improve your leadership abilities.

Based on Dean's popular L.E.A.D.E.R.S. MethodTM, which he developed during his many years of leadership study and experience, Leadership for Everyone reveals seven critical skills you must possess to perform as a true leader:

  • Listen to learn
  • Empathize with emotions
  • Attend to aspirations
  • Diagnose and detail
  • Engage for good ends
  • Respond with respectfulness
  • Speak with specificity

Dean presents guidelines for honing these skills through everyday practice in your actions and conversations. This will enable you to have greater influence in all the spheres of your life--both at work and at home--and prepare you to accept and attract more responsibility. Dean also offers you solutions and tactics to reinforce the effectiveness and productivity of your organization.

The L.E.A.D.E.R.S. MethodTM takes courage, honesty, the ability to keep your own ego needs at bay--and persistent commitment. By meeting these challenges, Leadership for Everyone is guaranteed to lead you to success.

An innovative way to enhance leadership skills in any situation

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will greatly expand your understanding of Leadership, February 24, 2006
This review is from: Leadership for Everyone: How to Apply The Seven Essential Skills to Become a Great Motivator, Influencer, and Leader (Hardcover)
This author is thoughtful, research oriented and very human. His comments are supported by his research and his life experience, both of which are very impressive. I loved the book and feel it should be a must read for everyone wanting to improve their skills. He expands the view of leadership to include how we react and respond to all people not only as "leader" in our job titles but how we can conduct ourselves as a leader in a multitude of roles. Great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really IS for everyone!, September 8, 2011

This review is from: Leadership for Everyone: How to Apply The Seven Essential Skills to Become a Great Motivator, Influencer, and Leader (Hardcover)
Last semester I had the fortunate opportunity to meet and get to know Dr. Dean through a class, and I found his book truly insightful. As a student, I look for books that will teach me concise, solid concepts that I can put to use the very next day. Leadership for Everyone fits this description perfectly.

There is a chapter representing each concept of the L.E.A.D.E.R.S. method and each chapter is broken down into smaller sections. Really important points are bulleted, so when you open a page, the things you need to take away are staring right at you. Although I had to read this book for a class, I have found myself referring back to it even after the class ended. One of the chapters that stands out in my mind especially is 'Speak with Specificity'. Other books I have read of a similar genre seem to overlook the importance of clear communication, and Dr. Dean breaks it down really well in this chapter. It is a simple concept, but it makes a huge difference in the way people perceive a leader and the outcomes that follow.

In a sentence: It's an easy read (just nine chapters) that leaves you with a lot to reflect on and a set of tools to become a better leader.
