An unfortunate choice of textbook,
This review is from: Nursing Leadership, Management, and Professional Practice for the LPN/LVN in Nursing School and Beyond (NURSING LEADERSHIP, MANAGEMENT & PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE FOR THE LPN/IVN) (Paperback)
I am currently in my final term of nursing school, and have loved all my textbooks, except for this one. This book was chosen for a nursing management class, and I disliked it so much that I was compelled to leave a review about it. While this book does have some valid information, it is buried within the lines upon lines of the author talking about herself. The whole thing is very pretentious, as I don't much care what the author has done, where she has traveled, who she knows, or any of the other useless autobiographical nonsense that plagues this book. On top of that, the entire book has a sense of looking down upon and belittling the LPN, almost to the point of suggesting that an LPN is not really a nurse. This is an all around poor choice, and I highly suggest finding another book.

The lady who wrote this book is under the impression that a nursing student has ime to "ponder" There is a is of useless extra reading in the book including indulgent personal stories. I dont really care what the author experienced, I just want the facts to get through this boring and all together useless class to begin with. It really adds no value to a nursing student in their last semester. We already know. Got to read through several pages of bs. to get to the very minimal real info that it contains. Otherwise well written if someone just was to read it out of hobby or interest, but as a text book its not straight to the point.

This book is helping me be a better leader as a LPN and to be a better nurse. I recommend this book to any nurse or student who feels they need to improve their management skills and their job. The book covers all what the nurse needs to know on management, communication, delegating, laws, motivating, counseling, making assignment, conflict and many more topics. The reading is easy to read and understand. It has taught me a lot.
