Book Description

Adopted at more than 1,000 colleges and universities worldwide, the market-leading text owes its success to the unique way in which it combines an academically robust account of the major theories and models of leadership with an accessible style and practical exercises that help students apply what they learn. Each chapter of Peter Northouse’s Leadership: Theory and Practice follows a consistent format, allowing students to contrast the various theories, and three case studies in each chapter provide practical examples of each theory or trait discussed. The Sixth Edition adds an important new chapter on Servant Leadership.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“This is a great textbook that provides the foundational theories of leadership. The book achieves a critical balance of providing scholarly research and practitioner perspectives. Case studies, class activities and leadership surveys provide an integrative perspective of individual, team and organizational leadership styles and practices” (Meera Alagaraja 2011-10-28)

What a great resource!Great book - Great case studies for the students - Easy to use. My students fine this book very sharpened and readable. I describe this bookas a pinch of background of what leadership is. This book is one of the rare book that presents Servant leadership in a new form for both instructors and students. (Dr. Oris Guillaume 2012-02-14)

A seminal work; a keeper! (Paul W. Decker 2012-03-09)

It provides a comprehensive and concise coverage of many leadership approaches. This text has the best on-line support for instructors and students I have ever seen. (Tom Taylor 2012-03-09)

I purchased this expensive e-textbook after downloading the sample, which had page numbers. After spending serious money on purchasing the book, I find there are no page numbers, only location numbers, which are not very good for in-text citations. Really irritating!!! Now I have had to purchase the hard copy book as well, so I can use it for my research papers and dissertation. I would have "returned" the e-book immediately upon finding no page numbers, but I had a reading assignment due before the hard copy would get to me. I'm SO disappointed in having spent twice as much on the e-book as the hard copy cost, only to find no page numbers!

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning About Kindle Version! January 19, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Just purchased and discovered that it does not include page numbers (at least on my Kindle iOS app and Kindle device) Given that it is a required text book for my class, I have to return it and go with the DTB version. Very frustrating.

1.0 out of 5 stars $64 for an eBook is price gouging college students April 15, 2013
Format:Paperback
$64 for an eBook is ridiculous. There is just no justification for that high of price, unless you count gouging poor students. I am sure that I will love this book, and that it will be helpful and a great resource for my Environmental Leadership class. But I will not be purchasing the eBook edition, something that as an Environmental Studies student I usually take pride in doing. This price is correct for a brand new hard cover copy, or even a paper back. But charging $64 for a version of a book that does not need to be printed or shipped is unconscionable.

I'm using the book for a doctoral level course on leadership. The book is just what I need in that it combines both research and theory with practical application in a great way. I particularly liked the self-assessmnets at the end of each chapter as well as the case studies. I have never seen such a useful and well written text on the subject of leadership. It is ideal for faculty needing a well-researched and practical text.
