Book Description

November 2, 2007

As one of the most successful raiders, conquerors, and explorers of their time Vikings encountered unprecedented hardships, challenges, and uncertainty. The Vikings' ability to turn uncertainty into opportunity has a strong and relevant message for today's businesses. The Viking leadership cultures stands out from the other cultures in history by its well-defined and unique leadership culture.

The Vikings changed leaders as things developed – and through group consensus always selected the most suitable leader for the situation in front of them. Ego, tweaking the truth, and self-interest, that are tenets of today’s corporate world, had to be kept in check as they represented mortal threats in a hostile environment. The Viking had the ability to balance the need for individual freedom and unified collective action with the mutual benefits for everyone involved. Facing life and death decisions Vikings rallied their crew and made fast but well accepted decisions.

Their leadership culture enabled them to take on a superior force in sheer numbers – relying on their ability, loyalty, and mutual bound. “The Leadership Principles of the Vikings” gives insights to how we one thousand years later can tackle fundamental change, volatile economies, and create effective lean organizations.

The Vikings had a unique approach to leadership that inspired, maximized, and capitalized on opportunities. These skills are crucial in a recession where many companies try to maximize the outcome from limited resources. “The Leadership Principles of the Vikings” tunes your skills to take calculated risks, identify the gains, anchor it in your team, and utilize the power of your team to execute.
