Book Description

There are too many books on leadership and management that are excessively abstract. This book is a simple, pragmatic checklist approach to leadership written by a former U.S. Marine sergeant.

Contrary to much of the published wisdom on leadership that what's important is connecting to people's emotions, what is truly necessary to accomplish any given task is to connect to people's skill sets. And the amazing reality is that people enjoy being recognized for their hard earned skills. Skip the memorization of family members names and pets and focus on the job. Everyone will be happier and you'll be a better leader.

I liked the straightforward approach and no nonsense.
Not for those wanting a leadership position to make them feel important.
Leadership is work and it is about knowing and serving your people.

Simple, practical and straight to the activities and compromises a leader has to embrace in order to achieve his vision and objectives making sure people is clear what their responsibilities are. The most important part, I think is the ability of the leader to analyze and match the people with the responsibilities, but not only for the team, the leader's too.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a gem! December 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Books on leadership and/or management tend toward the abstract, or the arcane. This book highlights simple and pragmatic ways to approach the sometimes overwhelming task of management.

Apparently written by a U.S. Marine sergeant, I'd say that Ben remembers well what it is like to transition from military leadership to civilian management. The transition is more than just changing the name, as Marines understand the common goals of the military. Ben takes those lessons, and shows how to apply them to managing a diverse work force with little in common. The lessons may be simple, but the results are fantastic.

This book is a gem!
