Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Like a spectrum, a leader's way of thinking should be diverse and cover a comprehensive range., says consultant Mary Burner Lippitt in The Leadership Spectrum: 6 Business Priorities That Get Results. Labeled "inventors," "catalysts," "developers," "performers," "protectors" and "challengers," the priorities involve thinking creatively and valuing flexibility, among other things. Lippitt's ideas are clearly presented and are accompanied by thought-provoking quotes from great minds, including John Adams, Heraclitus and H.L. Mencken.

This review is from: The Leadership Spectrum: Six Business Priorities That Get Results (Hardcover)
Mary Lippitt's book provides a new model for understanding the successes and failure points in leadership performance. It focuses on the way leaders achieve results, but also gives insights into how different values and mindsets influence opportunities to lead within each phase of an organization's lifecycle. The book provides both a theoretical model and practical guidelines on ways to improve leadership and outcomes. I recommend it to students of organizations, people who want to enhance their leadership capabilities, and consultants.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Practical, New Look At Leadership, September 17, 2002

This review is from: The Leadership Spectrum: Six Business Priorities That Get Results (Hardcover)
Dr. Lippitt offers a rich, yet practical, framework for a complex subject. If you're looking for fresh ideas on cultivating leadership flexibility, building influence, and achieving results, then this book needs to be part of your library. Instead of focusing on identifying the "right" leadership style or competencies, Dr. Lippitt makes the case for analyzing and understanding the priorities and needs of your team and organization and aligning your leadership priorities with them to achieve success. The best part is that she offers practical strategies for making that alignment a reality.
