Editorial Reviews

Review

"[You have] lots of self assessment activities. The figures and diagrams help to summarize the material. The Key terms at both the beginning and end of the chapter help. [You offer] a great total package of materials."

"This text gives learners a clear roadmap through the concepts, with many opportunities to apply the concepts and focus on the associated skills; in addition, the self-assessments allow students to see where they currently stand and form a plan to develop greater skill strengths."

I have not been impressed with this textbook. For the price of the book I expected a very professional and well edited and researched text but this has not been the case. I have noticed several typos and grammatical errors throughout. Plus, one of the areas in the book that referenced a research paper got the results of the paper backwards, thus confusing the reader on an aspect of behavioral leadership theory. Other areas discussing leadership theories appear to be based more on the opinion of the authors than on the body of research. Furthermore, their opinions do not appear to be generated from real world application, but instead from conceptualized and second hand accounts.

I had to buy this overpriced book because it was a required text. To learn about leadership I would choose some other book. Definitely not worth what I paid for it.

Book was boring & way overpriced. If you enjoy getting ripped off, you will love this book. Most times, repetitive.

This book does a pretty good job on describing what leadership is and what it is composed of. This was a text book for one of my classes but I was still able to enjoy it apart from the work.

I used this text in my MBA program and it is the one textbook I will never resell. It contains many quizzes to help you identify where you are on the leadership spectrum, and explains what you need to change to get the results you need from your group. Even homemakers and the retired elderly have leadership roles that can be enhanced by the info in this book. Easy, enjoyable read with tons of applicable, easy-to-understand information whether you are a CEO or an office worker. I highly recommend this book for your library.

This has actually been one of my more favorite text books through my college career! It's easy to read, sums up major points really well, and my favorite part is that it has self-assessments throughout each chapter that gives insight into your personality and how it ties into leadership and how to improve it. The chapters are not too long and they give you a summary at the end of the key points. I rented it and if it wasn't over $100 to buy it outright then I probably would... and I've never liked a text book that much before!

This book turned out to be much better than I originally expected. The chapters are well composed and brimming with information and useful self- assessments. For anyone aspiring to a management and/or leadership position, this book would be a useful asset - if for no other reason than the self-assessments will show you a lot about yourself and where your strengths and weaknesses are.
