Book Description

Leaders try to bring about change. And change almost always elicits opposition. So how do leaders navigate change, and the opposition to it, without giving up their dream for what could and should be? Carey Nieuwhof, pastor of Connexus Church near Toronto, examines five strategies that can help church leaders manage change:

1. Determine who is for (or against) the change and why.
2. Decide where to focus your attention.
3. Develop the questions that will set your course.
4. Learn to attack problems instead of people.
5. Persevere until the critical breakthrough.

Insightful and practical, LEADING CHANGE WITHOUT LOSING IT offers hope and encouragement for leaders, no matter where they serve in the church.

—————
“LEADING CHANGE WITHOUT LOSING IT is a practical guide to help church leaders of every kind navigate change in the face of opposition. Because so many church leaders are trying to transition an existing ministry rather than start a new one, this book comes at a critical time. The five strategies Carey outlines are practical and applicable to virtually any organization.”
—Andy Stanley, Senior Pastor, North Point Ministries

“If you lead in the church, you need this book. Leading through change is an inevitable part of church ministry and how you navigate these difficult waters will many times determine the legacy that you leave.”
—Pete Wilson, Pastor, Cross Point Church, author of PLAN B, co-author of EMPTY PROMISES

“Every leader—myself included—knows what we need to change. We get stuck at how to bring about change. I made a long list of leaders I know who need to read LEADING CHANGE WITHOUT LOSING IT. Carey Nieuwhof is both deep and practical—an unbeatable combination.”
—Kara Powell, Executive Director, Fuller Youth Institute, co-author of STICKY FAITH

“Knowing Carey Nieuwhof personally makes this book even better than it already is. He has produced a masterpiece to help young leaders like me not completely blow it when it comes to leading through change. I’m buying cases for our team and clients!”
—Casey Graham, Co-founder, Giving Rocket and Preaching Rocket

“When I first started reading Carey’s book, I thought I was doing so for Carey. I believe in him, have enjoyed his posts and prior work, and have always found him to be helpful and intentional in his writings. If Carey wanted me to read his new book, why would I say no? Then I started reading. Wow! Did he write this for me? I realized that Carey was addressing many of the issues I am about to face in a job transition. I’m going to face opposition to what I sense God is calling me to do. Carey’s book gave me new encouragement, even before I pursue my next God-given dream. Something tells me, this book is going to have the same impact on you. Read this book!”
—Ron Edmondson, pastor, leadership consultant, and blogger

“Carey is an incredible leader who has an uncanny gift for articulating difficult issues and providing practical solutions. Every great leader has faced tremendous opposition when pursuing a dream, and Carey has done a brilliant job of providing clear steps that every leader would be wise to follow.”
—Joe Sangl, President and CEO, Injoy Stewardship Solutions

“Leading through change is one of the most important, and one of the most challenging, calls any Christian leader will ever face. In LEADING CHANGE WITHOUT LOSING IT Carey Nieuwhof provides you with the inspiration you’ll need to stay the course, but more importantly with practical tools you’ll need to complete the task.”
—W. Scott Cochrane, Executive Director, The Leadership Centre Willow Creek Canada

5.0 out of 5 stars Important and strategic book on church leadership November 23, 2012
By Joanne
Format:Kindle Edition
I highly recommend this book on leadership in the church (although the principles could be applied to many secular organizations as well). The book guides you through the process of how to inspire people to embrace change, how to effectively and compassionately work with those who oppose change, and how to remain focused as a leader. The book is well-written and highly engaging. Leadership is often (typically?) not easy - this book will serve as a great source of practical support and encouragement for leaders steering their church (or other organization) through a time of change.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for leaders December 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I recently read this book and loved it. As a Human Resources professional, I find the information on change management absolutely applicable to any organization. Even better, this book is FUN to read. I'm not sure I've ever encountered such perfect comedic timing and delivery in a leadership book. This one truly has it all: great information, an organized format, concise delivery and humor. You won't regret the time invested reading this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful Helpful Helpful December 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I recently read Leading Change without Losing It and found it so helpful. Having served in a church for 9 years, I quickly realized that Carey knows what he's talking about. I found his insight and suggestions, metaphors and stories so encouraging. Plus, I loved that it was a quick read. It inspired me to have some very meaningful conversations and get some balls rolling that have laid still for a while. I can't wait for his next book. I've heard he's working on another one. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Important for Any Church Leader December 12, 2012
By SYC
Format:Kindle Edition
Change is often very difficult. Even a good and healthy change can cause stress. Leaders, though, need to lead others through change. Nieuwhof's 15+ years of ministry at both small rural (but growing) churches and a newer church-plants have shown him a large amount of change. His five strategies are applicable to a church of any size that is looking to move forward. The concepts are simple, but extremely wise. Nieuwhof helps leaders to lead through change instead of letting the change become overwhelming and daunting. This book is highly recommended for all church leaders. You will not be disappointed! Change is one of those things that needs to happen within the church, and as a leader, you need to be prepared to lead others through it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Leading Change Without Losing It December 11, 2012
By Tom
Format:Kindle Edition
Speaking from his very own experiences of leading change in a traditional church, Carey shares a lot of great insights and struggles that we can all relate to as we seek to navigate change in our own ministry environment. But, despite all the wisdom and encouragement I got from his "success" stories, what I appreciate most about his book is that he is real and genuine. Change is hard and although he has had success at it, he is not foolish enough to think that change is easy...even for him.

I strongly recommend this book to everyone, especially if you need to lead change in your ministry! Everyone can relate and benefit from it as it as a very easy book to read.

This book is a gift to every pastor who is attempting to lead change. The "Do the Math" chapter is worth more than the price of the book - and it's only the first chapter! This is a practical guide that makes leading change doable and sane.
