Leading Change in Your School,
By
This review is from: Leading Change in Your School: How to Conquer Myths, Build Commitment, and Get Results (Paperback)
This little book by Doug Reeves is packed with practical tips, tricks, and best practices for moving a school forward with the difficult and challenging work of reform. He tackles all topics including introducing one-page school improvement plans, the importance of teacher leadership, how to build capacity with coaching, getting over grades, and even a piece on the arts. I especially liked the list of myths school leaders should be aware of when they take on difficult change work. Thre are 7 myths total. Just a sample includes the following: 1. Plan Your Way to Greatness: Plans don't work. Actions do. Focus on doing a few things very, very well. Communicate those things and measure them. 2. Just a LIttle Bit Better is Good Enough: Playing around the edges will not lead to breakthrough improvements. Implementation proceeds buy-in. Someone has to have the courage and will to do something different. Worthy stuff.
