From The One Minute Manager to Raving Fans, Ken Blanchard's books have helped millions of people unleash their power and the potential of everyone around them. The Ken Blanchard Companies has helped thousands of organizations become more people-oriented, customer-centered, and performance-driven. Now, in Leading at a Higher Level, Updated Edition, Blanchard and his colleagues bring together everything they've learned about world-class leadership. You'll discover how to create targets and visions based on the "triple bottom line", and make sure people know who you are, where you're going, and the values that will guide your journey. From start to finish, this book extends Blanchard's breakthrough work on delivering legendary customer service, creating "raving fans," and building "Partnerships for Performance" that empower everyone who works for and with you. It also offers the definitive, most up-to-date techniques for leading yourself, individuals, teams, and entire organizations. Most importantly, it will help you dig deep within, discover the personal "leadership point of view" all great leaders possess-and apply it throughout your entire life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blanchard in a book January 12, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Imagine taking everything Ken Blanchard has ever written that was worth reading and put it in one book. That's what you have here. This is a gold mine. Regardless of who you lead (yourself, your family, your department, your company, your non-profit organization, your HOA, etc) this is the book for you!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good info, too many plugs for his other books December 26, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
There is tons of good information in this book, however I am baffled at the motives of the author(s) constantly referring/referencing/footnoting their own previously written books. In almost every chapter he refers to himself and co-authors in the third person ("As Ken Blanchard writes in ___ book".) It is very distracting to me and I can't determine if it is a shameless plug to sell you his other works or if it is some attempt at lending credibility to his point. If he wrote the previous book as an original idea, then he has no need to reference or quote himself. He makes excellent, thought-provoking points, but as Cynthia R. states in her book review, "Good info, too many plugs for his other books." (see how annoying that is)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great download! August 10, 2010

I also had no problems downloading the free version of the entire book on the kindle app for my droid phone. This is a great reference for training and leadership--everything from leading yourself, teams, companies, and learning how to coach others, as well as yourself. The authors of the Blanchard companies cover it all here!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource November 9, 2012
By Steve B
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Blanchard's book is an incredibly well thought out resource. I have not only put key concepts in practice as the operations manager of our company, but I am now giving it to other key employees to read as a model for them to glean from. Far from pie in the sky, I found the concepts practical, useable, an actionable. While Blanchard's concepts are not the only one's we use, they are a basis for much of the change we've implemented. They have also helped me outside of business in the way I handle people and interact on a personal level.

I'm not sure what earlier reviewers were experiencing, but I was able to download the complete book. I read the original first edition of Leading At A Higher Level when it originally came out and I am really glad to be able to access the second edition as a Kindle download. Lots of great insight in here--especially appreciate the section on building trust through sharing your leadership point of view. Also enjoyed learning about the role that leadership plays in creating employee passion and customer devotion.

This book spans the range from managing oneself through to leading a large organization, focusing on leadership and 'soft skills'. The key recommendation is that the development stage of the person / team / organization must be assessed and will determine the appropriate style of leadership to deploy. The authors refer to this system as Situational Leadership II.

Both starting and experiences managers and team leaders will find much valuable advice here. Having read the book cover to cover, I believe that the sections on leading organization-wide change can be skimmed by many readers, but all should read the advice on developing an individual leadership style. Overall, a great book to have in any leader's personal library and one I wish I had read many years ago at the start of my career.

4.0 out of 5 stars Textbook for my wife...
This was exactly the book required for the course. We always match the ISBN unless buying an import. That's another topic. Save a lot compared to the bookstore at school.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not much to say
It is an okay read. However, the author spends a lot of time self-promoting other books he has written.

Subject matter was repetative.
