In eight chapters Dr. Porter deals with familiar dimensions of leadership (empowerment, integrity, mentoring) from a Biblically supported, Christian perspective. At the end of each chapter she summarizes the lessons learnt and lists questions for further reflection. My personal favorite is chapter 3 which uses the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:5-42) to argue that identifying ourselves as created in God's image is our first step toward true empowerment. While aimed specifically at women, Leading Lessons is also an excellent resource for men. Its principal lesson: the goal of Christian leadership is essentially to lead people to a deeper relationship with God.

Leading Lessons places the reader on a historical and spiritual journey that forces the reader to discover not just one but the various roles she plays as a transformative leader. Rather than subjugate the reader to a single "leadership type/leadership style", the reader begins to see dimensions of herself in each of the prototypes presented. Armed with this new perspective, the reader can begin to craft an action plan that emerges from her spirit, her particular talents, passions, and interests rather than having such forged upon her through an assessment process that is designed to pigeon-hole and which often causes one to miss their true calling.

I highly recommend this reading for anyone that is serious about their journey to wholeness, leadership through service, and evolving their God-given, God-designed skills to the next level of productivity.

Leading Lessons is a great book for all women in leadership positions or those aspiring to leadership positions. The book is exceptionally valueable to Chrisitan women who frequently encounter"boundary issues" in the business world.
I commend Dr. Porter for sharing not only her insights on biblical women of leadership but foremost for providing concrete biblical doumentation.

This book is an EXCELLENT resource for women and men in leadership. Jeanne Porter writes particularly for women, but the principles and lessons from this book are absolutely amazing!
It is not a book that you can read through in a short period of time, but is innovative and gets you to really think through the issues in your life.
Thus it brings healing in areas that were kept hidden because of either cultural barriers or just plain ignorance.
I absolutely love this book and am grateful for it, bringing healing through a study of particular scriptures in my life and leadership.

Page by page the reader will be guided into great insights on different women leaders found in the pages of Scripture with personal stories interspersed by the author Jeanne Porter, and how we (the reader) can glean the insight from the way GOD used their lives and their giftings to help lead others. Leadership is equally an art, science and a calling. When one leads with insight, passion, clarity of purpose, wisdom, conviction and vision one cannot and will not fail. This is the book (along with the Bible) that will be your compass.


Leading Lessons is invaluable. Every woman is a leader. Leading Lessons will empower you to lead well and with the power of GOD.

I read this book in conjunction with a class entitled the same conducted by Dr. Porter. I found the book to be very interesting, thought provoking, educational and one that will propel you to action. If you are in leadership, thinking about it or know someone who is, buy (and read) the book. Dr. Porter's writings are scripture-based and she imparts real-life experiences to illuminate and validate her work. The book prompted me to return to passages and stories in the Bible that I may have only paid cursory attention to in the past. This book will beseech you to search yourself to discover all that God has for you. It is a must read for all women whether you are in the business or Christian community..... all can and will benefit from it! I plan to re-read the book and go through the exercises again now that I am not in class-mode. If you are looking to gain "lessons" on "leadership" this is the book for you! Leading Lessons is RICH in content and character.

This book is exceptional! I find it hard to put down. As I read through the book and answer the reflection questions it becomes more clear to me that GOD uses women for exceptional things. This book is helping me to focus on my time I spend with GOD in order to know HIS plan for my life.

Leading Lessons is insightful, personal, and spirit-filled. Jeanne Porter gives the reader "herself" as she expounds on the leadership roles of women of the Bible. For far too long women have accepted secondary roles in leadership, simply because it was understood that this was how it should be. However, this book affords women an opportunity to see a different side concerning leadership - - that women can effectively lead, and still maintain a spiritual posture. On having spent time reading Leading Lessons I am encouraged to take a more aggressive approach in leadership. This book is a must-read for anyone. I encourage churches and organizations to use this book as a resource tool in teaching others on how to lead.

Every organization should teach a class with this book as a text. The warm and personable author makes it all so clear. This thoughtful and very reflective read is perfect for any person interested in using their talents to become the BEST.
The lessons in the book are not only for people with a "leadership title" but also for the many aspiring leaders who are looking for direction and the people who shy away from leadership roles. Many people young, old male and female will be blessed by the book which meets you in your spiritual walk and gives you ACTIONABLE insight to propel you to the highest levels God has called you to. You will love this book- It's as though the author is next to you, coaching you during every step of this journey.
