Offering comprehensive coverage of effective nursing leadership and management, this third edition challenges nursing students to learn the structure, concepts, and relationships of their future trade with a wide array of interactive tools. Focusing on building the complete nurse beyond actual healthcare, this new edition features a full-color design and the addition and reorganization of key chapters.
  • Each chapter opens with The Challenge - a contemporary nurse manager's real-world concerns related to the chapter content.
  • The Solution closes each chapter by illustrating effective methods of handling the challenges of those situations set forth in the chapter.
  • The full-color design attracts and maintains student interest.
  • Exercises are scattered throughout every chapter to provide a quick lesson in thinking critically as well as an opportunity to apply the chapter content to current, real-world scenarios.
  • Theory Boxes give a brief description of relevant theory and key concepts.
  • Research and Literature Perspectives illustrate the relevance and applicability of current studies to practice.
  • Objectives and Questions to Consider guide students toward considering their own viewpoints or experiences with topics and issues discussed in each chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars I STILL use it!, September 9, 2002
By
Cade's Mommy (Dallas, TX United States) - See all my reviews
Granted, Dr. Yoder-Wise TAUGHT my leadership class is nursing school so we HAD to buy her book, but it has been the most useful book to me since I graduated from Texas Tech in '99. I have used the CV and resume' forms multiple times for job applications and graduate school. It's packed full of very useful information. Lots of good sources for legal/ethical and cultural diversity for paper writing too!

3.0 out of 5 stars nursing student review, June 14, 2009
As a RN student in a leadership class using this book, I found it to be incredibly dry and hard to read. It is more geared toward RNs going into management or leadership positions, not nursing students.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Wise" Approach to Leading and Managing, October 27, 2000
By
Dr Roberts (Kansas, United States) - See all my reviews
Patricia Yoder-Wise blends the attributes which nurses exhibit in their practice, care and compassion, knowledge and skill, and logically demonstrates their application in leadership and management areas of nursing. Throughout the book, whether discussing the management of people or resources, Yoder-Wise emphasizes the need for nurses to continue to learn, to care, and maintain their passion for nursing.
