5.0 out of 5 stars Bizarre, Mind-Numbing Tech Metal Masterpiece, April 8, 2007

Wow! I don't know where to start with this one....I picked this up after reading some reviews comparing it to Decapitated, which is one of my favorite technical/progressive death-metal bands, and was simply floored by it.

Gorod are a French band playing a very progressive, technical style of death metal most comparable to (as mentioned) Decapitated, as well as German metallers Necrophagist. Every aspect of this album is polished and well-produced, from the excellent, sharp and crisp production of the music itself, to the conceptual, nihilistic and very cool artwork (somewhat reminiscent of Giger's dark "biomechanical" style) designed by band member and guitarist extraordinaire, Mathieu.

Guitarists and fans of excellent musicianship are in for a real treat here, as Gorod tears through track after track of convoluted, angular, and unpredictable riffs, odd time signature shifts, and eerie interludes. The great thing about this album, however, is the near jazz-fusion sensibility guitarist Mathieu brings to the table...progressive, incredible soloing and advanced rhythmic sensibilities combined with an unusual ability to infuse a heavy style like this with jazz guitar elements and motifs, and occasionally a bit of old-school American flat-five blues riffing...(!) Very, very cool and strange. I haven't been this satisfied with a cerebral bludgeioning since Meshuggah. Highly recommended for fans of extremely technical metal or just great "shred" guitar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome French Technical Death Metal, October 12, 2009

I am completely addicted to Gorod's Leading Vision. I have had this album for weeks now and listen to it almost every day. This band is so talented it makes my head want to explode. To me their music is what you would get if you put Deathmetal , jazz, and classical music together. Awesome. A unique thing about this album is that they made up a story and wrote lyrics around it. I won't even try to explain it cause it kind of long and a little confusing but cool none the less. Listen this album. Buy this album. You will start looking for more metal bands from France after hearing this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eargasm, May 17, 2007

Heavy and technical. Rare combination anymore. Heavy enough to induce an adrenaline overload, but technical and intelligent enough to turn even the most critical listener wide-eyed and awe-struck.

French band Gorod releases yet another spectacular album, and I must say, this is definitely one mindblowing record. The guitar parts make you wonder how you could possibly make music like this band, and the bass...it's great to have an audible bass for once. This is definitely technicality, and it belongs in your CD collection if you enjoy Necrophagist, Spawn of Possession, and Sleep Terror. And thus, Willowtip records has released yet another spectacular gem in their catalog.
