5.0 out of 5 stars Even without the Madonna song, it's a great album!
This is one of my favorite CD's because of it's variety and simplicity in the nostalgia. However, the song that really stands out on this CD is Carole King's "Now and Forever." It's a great song abotu friendships and those special bonds we have with certain people in our lives.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice... just nice.
The album contains some excellent period pieces, although the opening Carole King number is nothing but a throwaway. Hans Zimmer's score can be sometimes brilliant, sometimes boring. Yet the real fun is "The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League Song", sung by The Rockford Peaches (Geena Davis, Madonna, and other cast members). This could have been...

This is one of my favorite CD's because of it's variety and simplicity in the nostalgia. However, the song that really stands out on this CD is Carole King's "Now and Forever." It's a great song abotu friendships and those special bonds we have with certain people in our lives.

Billy Joel contributes an old jazz number that is so smooth you can butter toast with it! Art Garfunkel adds his oldie to bring to mind the classy romantic moments between couples from days past.

Hans Zimmer's score for the film is also included and shows his musical genius in composing music for film.

This CD is full of variety yet all have a thread of nostalgia woven through each song.

The strength in this CD is through the finely chosen songs. Even with the omission of Madonna's "This used to be My Playground," this soundtrack album still isn't lost without it. It's found its own way into my CD collection and will stay there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!!, April 21, 2002
This review is from: A League Of Their Own: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Wow... sometimes you listen to a soundtrack and half of the songs aren't even in the movie itself. This is not the case with this CD. Every song is from the movie, which, in essence, is what a soundtrack should be. The only bad part is that the CD doesn't have Madonna's song, "This Used to Be My Playground."

I am not sure if the previous reviewers are still looking for the above-mentioned song, but you can definitely find it on Madonna's ballad album, "Something to Remember." It has the beloved, "This Used To Be.." and some old ones, like "Live To Tell" from the 80s film "At Close Range" with ex-hubby Sean Penn and Christopher Walken. I hopes this helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love The Score!, January 14, 2003

People probably think I'm weird for thinking this, but I think the best 2 tracks on this soundtrack are Hans Zimmers, "Life Goes On" and "The Final Game." I just love listening to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excludes Madonna's hit song, March 26, 1999

This Soundtrack, full of 1940's-period music, complete with the bat-girls' compelling anthem, excludes the hit ballad "This Used To be My Playground" <Madonna's tenth #1 hit> heard during the end credits of the film. This track originally surfaced on 1992's "Barcelona Gold", a compilation album benefitting the U.S. Olympic Team, and is truly a beautiful song featuring longing vocals over lush classical instrumentation, and it reflects the equally-beautiful film.

Yet the real fun is "The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League Song", sung by The Rockford Peaches (Geena Davis, Madonna, and other cast members). This could have been a classic soundtrack if the incredible ballad "This Used To Be Playground" weren't missing (Due to Madonna's contract, it had to appear on her own label, and finally surfaced on the superb "Something To Remember" album).

4.0 out of 5 stars A little lacking..., February 19, 2009
This review is from: League of Their Own (Audio CD)
This product is great! The music from this movie really is wonderfun and this cd shows it. My only problems are the fact that there are only two songs from Hans Zimmer on it. This movie has a truly compelling score and it's the main reason I wanted the soundtrack. That being said, the two by him are great representations of the score and are truly beautiful pieces of music. Another problem is that there isn't the Madonna song "This used to be my playground" which is a favorite of mine from the movie as well. All in all, though, if you liked the music from this movie then you should definitely buy this. I bought mine used and it wasn't even expensive at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Music - A Lot of Fun!, December 7, 2008
This review is from: A League Of Their Own: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I enjoyed this movie so much more thanks to the music! Any movie can only do well from good music - but the music for this particularly movie was so well-choosen, and so appropo to it. The music created for it is just as delightful. I very highly recommend this soundtrack!

The songs were great, and most made me want to get up and dance. My favorite? "Now and Forever". It is so true (the song, i mean).
