Clarence is king, March 21, 2011
This review is from: The Lean Advantage (Paperback)
What a sad statement that a book like this currently has ZERO reviews. It's a sign of the times. All things flashy and fake get the attention of the masses while solid gold info like the work of Clarence Bass gets a much smaller legion of readers. Well, the masses ARE asses as the expression goes. People would rather read nonsensical garbage that tells them they will gain 30 lbs. of muscle in 3 months than real-deal information like that presented in all of Clarence's work. This review applies to ALL 3 of the lean advantage books. I have them all as well as his other work. Each word is gold. It's tried and true advice coming from a man with 50+ years in the game. Clarence is currently over 70 years old and is still big and ripped. He talks the talk AND walks the walk while contemporaries like Arnold are saggy, fat old has-beens. You can't knock Clarence down. He's got it all worked out and by reading his books and applying their wisdom you can thrive too. Don't expect to be told a bunch of soothing nonsense though. Getting muscular and lean takes years.....it takes effort.....it takes attention to detail. You may not want 3% bodyfat....I don't. You may not agree with Clarence's "near-vegetarian" diet....I don't. But I still consider him to be the king in the arena of weight training/fitness/fat loss. The best thing I got from his books was "permission" to stop taking my sets to failure. I did it for 20+ years and it really limited my growth. What a waste of so many years. By stopping my sets short of failure I have gained and I feel so much better. For 20+ years I have been frying my CNS....who knows how many years that has taken off my life. Yes, I've had his books for years but even still did not put all of his advice into action right after reading them. I wish I had. So much good advice....periodization, coaxing gains, stopping short of failure....and the Schwinn Airdyne...what a great piece of equipment. In short, Clarence comes as close as anyone to knowing it all. He is well rounded in the areas of fat loss/gaining muscle/and nutrition. Even if you have an interest in just one of those areas he is still the voice to listen to. Need proof? Go to his website and look at the pics of him at age 70. The website is filled with great info and it's all free.
