5.0 out of 5 stars Lean Six Sigma for Supply Chain Management, January 11, 2007

This review is from: Lean Six Sigma for Supply Chain Management (Hardcover)
This is most definitely a book for Supply Chain and Operations Management practitioners. If the reader is looking for a high level review of the subject matter, I would not recommend this book. This book is a serious, dense study of the material with practical applications and techniques.

Of the various industry texts that I have read, this is probably the "slowest read" mostly because there is so much content and meaning in each section. At the same time, the book design is modular so that the practitioner may skip chapters and study just their focus area. Mr. Martin definitely displays his expertise with fluff-free, accurate, and useful information. A must read for people serious about transforming their supply chains.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to a Complex Subject, November 14, 2006
This review is from: Lean Six Sigma for Supply Chain Management (Hardcover)
The majority of books and studies in the six sigma quality area deal with controlling your own manufacturing process - maybe that's because manufacturing quality people buy the books. But most of the problems that occur with actually developing, installing and using six sigma lie not in manufacturing but in managing the outside vendor supply chain.

Mr. Martin, a long time worker in six sigma and in lean supply chain management has put together a book that is completely understandable for such a complex subject. If anything the book is just a bit to understandable so that you may become convinced that six sigma is easy. It's not. An awful lot of big companies have been talking about six sigma but have proven unable to get to that standard.

All and all, this is an excellent overview of the six sigma concept when combined with Lean supply chain concepts. It's certainly a good place to start.

4.0 out of 5 stars 6-sigma + Supply Chain improvements, February 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lean Six Sigma for Supply Chain Management (Hardcover)
I have read part of the book so far... however it seems to be a very interesting and helpful book. If your are looking for a conceptual, not-so-technical 6-sigma book, which has illustrative supply chain x 6-sigma applications, that is your book.

Excellent reference for supply chain improvement

James Martin's book, "Lean Six Sigma for Supply Chain Management: The ten step solution process", is an excellent resource. It is written for supply chain professionals to explain six sigma process methodologies and how they can be applied to improving real business processes.

Mr. Martin does an excellent job of pulling together a broad set of information to explain these quality improvement methodolgies and how these can be applied to supply chain processes. He has created a great reference. This is the type of book that you want to read while your working on a process improvement project. The concepts are directly applicable.

For me this book provided exceptional details with which to get your supply chain failures and problems under control. The book demonstrates the myriad of elements that can run the supply chain process into a company quagmmire.
