The Best Investment You'll Ever Make...In YOURSELF!,
By C.T. Chase "cchase8860" (Arlington, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Leanness Lifestyle (Paperback)
In November of 2006, I was topping the scales at around 385, if I had to make a good guess. I looked like crap, I felt like crap, and I knew that at some point in my life (if I still wanted to HAVE a life), I would have to make a change. So I did what a lot of other people did. I was a serial fitness book/gadget buyer who dabbled in everything from Body For Life to Beachbody to Nutri-System to who-knows-what-else. I was no stranger to the Leanness Lifestyle program, either. Some years earlier, I had signed up and lost fifty pounds in a few months. But because I couldn't get my head out of all the misinformation and confusion out there, I lumped it in with all of my other failed attempts and chalked it up as just "one more thing on the pile."
Fast-forward to September of 2007. Here it was a year later, and in my doctor's office I discovered I was a little lighter (377 this time), but not enough to get me out of the morbidly obese category. Something had to change - I was 47 years old, and the prospects of reaching 50 weren't looking so good. I don't know why, but I remembered the Leanness Lifestyle program, and I decided that maybe it was worth another shot. That was about four months ago. As I write this, my weight is currently 316. And STILL dropping. What you need to understand when purchasing this book, is that if you've come to it looking for the "magic pill", the diet-that-works-overnight-without-having-to-exercise-one-freakin'-day, or some "ancient Chinese Secret" that its author picked up during his travels along the Great Wall, then you need to put down your credit card and back away from the PC. The word "LIFESTYLE" is not in the title for nothing, folks, because that's exactly what this is. In clear, concise terms that anyone paying attention can understand, David Greenwalt spells it all out for you. It's not rocket science or quantum physics - it's a wake-up call, a dash of cold water on the head, a reality check written from a bank account full of the knowledge that David has because he's been RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE NOW. There is nothing simple, easy-breezy or instant about what this book has in store for you. But here's the kicker: it's also NOT IMPOSSIBLE. Whatever your age, fitness level or current situation, what he has to say here is worth heeding. It isn't a process as simple as just "eating right and exercising", but you CAN do it. Buy the book. Read it - not once, but a couple of times. And then if you are convinced that he knows exactly what he's talking about, complete the start of the journey by signing up for the website that is this book's invaluable companion piece. This is NOT a review written or otherwise solicited by its author, and if you don't believe it, email me and I will reply with my current pictures. I was a cynic, a skeptic and a fatalist about my weight before all of this. Now I will be hitting my goal weight in just another four short months. Care to join me? Then don't wait another second. Get started NOW.

So Much Information on Physical and Mental Transformation!,
By
This review is from: The Leanness Lifestyle (Paperback)
I just happened across this author one day online when I was ready to make a change in my health and appearance. I am so lucky I did.
This is simply the most powerful book on physical transformation and the mindset and nutrition needed to get there that I have ever come across. I'm an avid reader in the personal development field and love the gurus like Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy and Zig. I consider myself well educated in fitness, having played college football and having trained with weight for over 20 years. I picked up a lot of knowledge along the way. Greenwalt truly combines fitness and motivation and is a selfmade expert in both. Greenwalt has done his homework and done it well. This book is an incredible resource on weight training, nutrition, cardio, body composition, and the psychology of motivation and choice to change. This is not a book about quick fixes or hype in anyway but this book works. I've not been following it perfectly but I've lost 6 pounds of fat and gained 3 pounds of muscle in 1 month and I couldn't be more excited about my new lifestyle. My favorite parts of the book, are percentile charts that show how you rank against others in your age group for weight and bodyfat. This book is the first place I have seen documented how much lean muscle weight you can actually gain in a given time period. The section on nutrition is fascinating and outlines just how many calories a person can consume given there activity level and reach their desired weight loss goals. There is a formula in here for everything. The chapters on Goal Setting and motivation are great. This book has so much information in it, I consider it the equivalent of a college text book on exercise physiology but it is so straightforward and is something that I will use again and again. What a valuable reference! The only knock I can possibly give this book is at times, the author gets a little long winded about personal stories. But on the flipside, when I finished I felt like I knew him and that he was a genuinely caring human being that did 20 years of research and truly wanted to help his fellow man. Thank you so much for this book it is already changing my life and mindset. I look forward to doing one of the author's online bootcamps!

Whatever works,
By Kyle (Toronto, ON) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Leanness Lifestyle (Paperback)
Okay, bought the book, did the program. And it worked. It isn't rocket science. Eat properly. Exercise right. Smarten up and stick to it. There's no big secret, so what's so great? Everything's right there in front of you. Just do what the man says, and it'll work like he says. They're not pushing any gimmicks, or gadgets, or pills. Just stuff that you do everyday anyway, just doing it smarter. Reality is, we're all looking for an easy way to lose the spare tire. Doesn't exist. So, when you're ready to get it done, once and for all, keep this one in mind- it's all you need. What I didn't like? All the details. If you're not good at that, this won't be easy. Like I said, though, easy doesn't cut it.

This program will work for you,
By
This review is from: The Leanness Lifestyle (Paperback)
I find it annoying that some of the cynical reviews from people imply that the author wrote the majority of reviews for his own book. This is just not true, and I know through online contacts a number of people who wrote reviews.
What is true is that these people are involved in on online program called the Leanness Lifestyle, and this book describes the knowledge that serves as a basis for that program. One can use the book to learn about the program, and to implement it after a fasion. However, to make the best use of it, you need to join the program, follow all the steps, and use the extensive computer tools that are provided online. If you do this, it will work for you. As other reviews have noted, this program is not a quick fix. There is no quick fix in weight loss and body transformation. But unlike most programs, this one provides a person with a great deal of knowledge - some practical, some experiential, and much derived through the scientific literature - that will help a person understand what they are doing and potentially make a permanent transformation. Also unlike many programs, this one also explores aspects of the psychology of weight loss and body transformation, and presents rules to follow in this area. Many aspects of permanent weight loss go far beyond understanding how to eat and exercise. An understanding of nutrition and exercise alone are extremely unlikely by themselves to provide sufficient tools for a permanent change. I recommend this book for the knowledge it provides, but if you really want to make it work for you, you need to explore the online program on which it is based.

Very concise volume on body transformation, nutrition, exercise science,
By Liz Nelson, Exercise Physiologist (New South Wales,Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Leanness Lifestyle (Paperback)
David Greenwalt has rolled everything you need to know about body transformation into one concise volume.
The information contained within is scientifically and medically sound and presented in a very easy to read format. There are no fad diets, unrealistic exercise programs or way out concepts in living The Leanness Lifestyle. Leaving no stone unturned, David also spends time looking at the psychological factors affecting transformation as well. I am a member of David's website, but make much of my living reviewing fitness products as a degree qualified exercise physiologist. The website is completely optional, but a good adjunct to the book. If you are serious about making long term changes to your body and your health, Leanness Lifestyle comes highly recommended.

Get results like the Body-for-LIFE champions...,
By
This review is from: The Leanness Lifestyle (Paperback)
If you want to take Body-for-LIFE to the next level or get detailed information about why you haven't been able to achieve results like the champions, this book is a very detailed and meticulous instruction guide that outlines the steps you must take to get super fit.
The principles of this book are based on nutrition, training and mental fortitude: - A basic bodybuilder's diet that creates a caloric deficit (30-40% Protein + 45-55% Carb + 15-20% Fat) - Periodization resistance training + Cardio - And of course: Desire. Many of the testimonials are overdone by the "Club Lifestylers" which any smart person can spot. (HINT: 5 stars, clusters of review dates...) Weight loss is never permanent. You will have to work hard to get and stay lean and muscular - it's a lifestyle. However, this book serves as a good guide if you want to know what it takes to get lean and/or prepare for a bodybuilding contest.

No gimmicks, this book ROCKS and it works,
By Mona D. (Bellingham, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Leanness Lifestyle (Paperback)
This book was highly recommended by a woman whose weight-loss story intrigued me, and as it happens, she is one of the women who is pictured in the book as a success story! :) I actually have two copies, one for me and a "loaner" to anyone I know who wants to read it!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. David Greenwalt doesn't just preach a "calories in versus calories out" mantra, like so many others do. I mean, seriously, if it were that easy, no one would have a weight problem! He deals a lot with the mental changes and issues surrounding being overweight, gives you the tools and formulas to succeed, and over ANYTHING else.... it's a program we can all follow and live by! I love the motivation it gives me, it really lights an internal fire!! There are loads of success stories, before and after pictures, testimonials, and the book is written candidly. David doesn't lecture, but teaches. Explains in great detail about what works, and what doesn't, and WHY everything you have tried so far hasn't worked. There are great workout routines to whip you into shape. Assignments and reviews at the end of every chapter... they are eye-opening and make you really get to the bottom of why you are unhappy and overweight. They are fun to do, and you can tell that David is a sponge for knowledge. He has done his research, and wants to help you. I cannot recommend this book enough. I went from a miserable and unhealthy 207 pounds (I'm 5'6") to currently 150 pounds, and still losing weight and learning!! I've never felt more in control and proud of myself than I do right now, and looking fantastic doesn't hurt either :). What you put into your body, will affect how you look on the outside!!

The Last 20 Pounds - Finally!,
By
This review is from: The Leanness Lifestyle (Paperback)
When I read this book, I was struggling to lose the last 20 pounds of "baby" weight and felt as if I had tried everything.
I had four children in less than 8 years with a full time job and just was not able to get the right formula for losing the weight. I won't say that it was easy, but the book has so many ways to help, I found what I was looking for. Greenwalt shares many of his own weight loss and fitness stories, which makes for authenticity. I am happy to say that I have now adopted the "Lifestyle" and am back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I weigh less at 39 than I did at 25, and the best part is that I have learned how to keep it off for the rest of my life. Fantastic book!!

This Is How You Live a Healthy Life,
By
This review is from: The Leanness Lifestyle (Paperback)
This is the finest book of its kind. David Greenwalt has done a tremendous job gathering in one book virtually all the information that you would ever need to finally achieve the health and fitness that you desire, and in reality truly require. If you are tired of reading the latest fad diet book and seek to approach healthy living in a reasonably achievable and logical way, then it is time for you to purchase this book.
I recommend this text as the next evolutionary step (and perhaps revolutionary step) for those who formerly followed the Body for Life transformation programs. While Body for Life provided a regimen for achievement, in retrospect it lacked some of the long-term sustainability criteria that David Greenwalt builds into this book. The setting of explicit short, intermediate and long-term goals as well as the relative rate of progress that one should expect is perhaps one of the strong suits of this book. The comprehensiveness of the book may in fact be about the only drawback that I can identify. In an effort to cover everything in great detail, the book may be a tad longer than may be necessary. That being said, to really get an understanding of the whys and hows, the author certainly covers all the bases. David Greenwalt presents a very achievable methodology for someone to journey from where they are to where they need to be. He lays out the details for the absolute necessity of resistance training to be the foundation of fat loss as opposed to excessive amounts aerobic training. I truly expect that those who read this book and apply the reasonably simple and straightforward thinking and action prescribed will achieve results that they never believed possible. |
