Leap Back Home to Me is a beautiful little book sure to tug at the heartstrings of all mothers. It's a great message for little kids that mothers try to instill in them every day: no matter how high you fly or how far you leap, I'll always be here. This chubby little frog leaps over beavers, only to leap back to mom who's waiting with paper and crayons. He leaps over mountains, rainbows and seas only to return to mom who's waiting with something yummy to eat. His trips get progressively farther away until the end when he travels to the farthest stars, only to find mom still waiting there for him when he returns. For any child facing some big first steps, this will be an excellent book to remind them that mom is always there.

The illustrations only add to the charm of this fun offering. Our little leaping frog is joyous and funny and kids will get a big kick out of seeing him fly across the sky like superman, and leap across the hilltop with a grin almost as wide as the page. These fun pictures are done in watercolors but are still vibrant and large enough to be enjoyed by a group. It also has a great read-aloud flow that makes it a perfect choice for story time or any young child's personal collection. Recommended.

A mama frog sings a leap frog song to her little frog son, encouraging him to leap all over the place, over the creek and the hilltop and even the sun and stars, but then reminding him to return home to her.

The illustrations show a little green frog leaping over things, while mama sits home, quietly awaiting the return of her son. Wish mama would leap herself now and then, but a lovely and comforting book for a child.

"Leap frog over the owl's nest.
Leap frog over the trees.
Leap frogover the rocky hilltop,
then leap back home to me!"

This is such a great combination of sending kids out into the big wide world and providing a safe, happy place to come back to. We checked it out from the library and are buying one for our home library. My kids delight in naming all the things the little frog is leaping over before going back home to mama. Only tiny quibble, frog leaps over a rainbow but there is no mention of it in the text so I just add it and they are happy. Sweet, feel-good book, we love it.

Being in split homes, my kids are gone two days every week, and five straight days every other week, and it's tough on me mostly. We read Leap Back Home to Me before they leave whether they'll be back that Friday or the next Monday. It gets emotional for me at the end, of course, because being away from your kids is never easy. But it's a great story of comfort, that even though they're gone, I'll still be here when they come back home!

My two year old son was adopted earlier this year, and he and I love this book. He calls the big frog Mama and the little frog "me," referring to both of us. I think this book has clearly helped him realize that I will always be there for him, no matter what. This is a wonderful book for all children but is especially great for adopted children who need a little reassurance that home means family.
