If you want to have some pure unadulterated fun, pick up this album. If you want pure tones with the notes electronically altered, buy a studio-based opera album. If you want to hear a wonderful performer in a live setting, get this record. 3.0 out of 5 stars Better As A Studio Recording
Ah, imagine these songs sung in a studio setting. Great repertoire indeed! Although much of the spoken stuff is funny there is far too much yakking between songs. Makes for not wanting to keep spinning and spinning this disc over and over again. Check out Nick & Nora, Falsettoland and Little Me cast recordings for some classic Faith Prince!

And can you do such a great impersonation of Elaine Stritch? (Don't answer that question...)

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific evening of great singing and banter, September 13, 2000

I happened across Faith Prince while watching the Broadway Ladies DVD - she sang, what I understand now is her "signature" song - "Adelaide's Lament" from Guys and Dolls. I also have the CD from Guys and Dolls and hadn't even realized, when I listened, that it was Faith Prince. This recording is her "virgin" debut in the cabaret mode - and she is just exceptional! I have always been a fan of the musical "On a clear day you can see forever" and Ms. Prince breathes renewed life into one of my favorite Broadway songs from that show, but really from all shows ever "What did I have that I don't have." Her style of singing this song is somwhat reminiscent of Barbara Harris, but she brings to it her wonderfully unique lilt, humor and passion. Her banter with the audience is upbeat, humorous, self effacing, and great fun. I strongly recommend this marvelous CD to all who enjoy live concert music performed by a magnificent professional singer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of fun, fresh air!, July 18, 2000

Faith Prince's major claim to fame comes from her Tony-award winning turn as the delightfully ditzy Miss Adelaide in the recent B'way revival of Guys and Dolls. Here, the charmingly squeaky-voiced Prince puts on a cabaret show, going through a highly enjoyable set interspersed with entertaining patter. If none of these songs are remarkably "deep," they are all highly entertaining, which is Prince's motivation from song one, a great lead-in from "Some People" (at a slower-than-usual tempo) to Little Me's "On the Other Side of the Tracks." A hilarious anecdote about life on the touring circuit leads into two beautifully performed songs from "On A Clear Day." Other highlights: Husband Larry Lunetta's trumpet-work on "The Man With A Horn" and "If I Were A Bell," the tounge-twisting "The Boy From..." ..., and the deliciously jazzed-up "Adelaide's Lament" (who's opening line gets a burst of applause from an audience having a great time).

Just fun, fun, fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Faith Is Wonderful, August 1, 2000
By
This review is from: Leap of Faith (Audio CD)
This is a live recording of Faith Prince at Joe's Cafe, so there is some talking on it. Most of the people who have reviewed seemed to not like the chatting Faith does. I don't mind at all. The stories and the songs flow well, and even though Faith admits to being a "cabaret virgin", she does very well. Some of the songs are unfamiliar, but are very good, and the new jazzed up Adeline's Lament is a kick. Buy this, you won't be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY IT!!!, July 18, 2005
This review is from: Leap of Faith (Audio CD)
I came across this CD about five years ago totally by accident, a friend left it at my house and then left town - and boy am I glad that she did! I wasn't really very familiar with Faith Prince before I popped this disc in - but I was a life long fan by the time it was over. This recording takes you into Joe's Pub and provides an hour or more of witty stories, broadway standards, as well as a few rare jems that I had never heard before. If you appreciate a good evening of song and lore then you will love this album. Ms. Prince shines, both her wit and her voice. You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, and her voice ain't bad either, August 28, 2002

If you can't see Faith Prince in person, and everyone should, this CD is the next best thing. Her personality, charm and ever-present wit only make you love her voice more and you get it all in this package. Her bit on Elaine Strich made me laugh my head off and her cell phone call to her son is really cute. I try to separate my love for this woman's talent from what others may simply hear in her voice, but I can't. Faith is one of this country's great talents - you're going to love this woman and her music!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brava, Faith!, July 12, 2000
This review is from: Leap of Faith (Audio CD)
Brava, Faith! There is nothing more vulnerable than agreeing to record live--and the first few numbers of the recording do show a little of the artists nerves, but by the time she hits "Hard Way," Ms. Prince hits an amazingly powerful pace that propels her through the rest of this magnificent performance. Settle down with a high-ball, and you'll feel you're right there at Joe's Pub! Marvelous, hilarious, touching--a must for any fan of the Broadway performer

5.0 out of 5 stars SOMETHING WONDERFUL, May 15, 2000
By
This review is from: Leap of Faith (Audio CD)
What makes this cabaret recording so fantastic is that you are hearing a great broadway singer and actor try something new. She does it with such style, grace and an abundant sense of humor that slight vocal variations are forgiven. To those who rated this a one: lighten up. The stories are the funniest patter put on a recording in decades, the songs are, for the most part, original, engaging and personal, not to mention well sung. By the way, oh harsh critics, some of the greatest cabaret artists in America are not known for having incredible voices. (i.e. Marlene Dietrich, Bobby Short, Andrea Marovicci, etc.) This is a delightful and unique recording that I will play again and again to enjoy the music and the hilarious patter.

Fantastically entertaining. Great music, unique voice, funny, funny lines; what a personality. This is one of the most enjoyable, from start to finish, CDs I have encountered in a long, long time. Congrats on a great solo debut CD. It's worth having.
