5.0 out of 5 stars LeapFrog Bilingual Memory Mate game - My kids love it!!!

Leap Frog has earned my trust and my kids have enjoyed the Leap Frog Letter Factory and several versions of Leap Frog computers. I was happy to find Leap Frog also has products for good old fashion family fun and learning that doesn't require a television or batteries. This game is riddled with errors in Spanish, so children will be unnecessarily exposed to errors they will then have to correct.

Here is an example of the extremely basic errors found in this Bilingual Memory Mate game:

1) el maíz: the accented letter i has both the dot and the accent. That is incorrect.
2) los peces: the correct plural of pez is peces, not pesces.
3) la campana: the correct gender for campana is female, not male (el campana).
4) el papa: lack of accent on the final a leads to the card reading the Pope or the potato instead of Father.
5) la mama: lack of accent on the final a leads to the card reading the breast instead of Mother.
6) el patito: the English pair for this card reads duck, not little duck, which is their translation. The Spanish card should read el pato.

I will not be buying any more bilingual LeapFrog products if this game is any indication of the general lack of Spanish skills their supposedly bilingual staff displays. Luckily I only paid $5 for it, because it's not even worth that much.

Leap Frog has earned my trust and my kids have enjoyed the Leap Frog Letter Factory and several versions of Leap Frog computers. I was happy to find Leap Frog also has products for good old fashion family fun and learning that doesn't require a television or batteries. Leap Frog Bilingual Memory Mate is a memory match game for ages 3 and up that matches common pictures like houses, boats and ducks.

There are 90 cards with the words featured in English on one card and Spanish on another. I l like this game because there are really three levels of learning. First is matching the pictures. Second, each pair fits together like a two piece puzzle to let kids double check their match. Third, kids can learn the Spanish vocabulary for each object as well.

Traditionally memory match games are played with all the cards turned over while players try to remember where they've seen an object and find the match. My personal recommendation for playing with 3 & 4 year olds is to play first with all the cards up for quick matching success. Older kids will enjoy the challenge of the "memory" aspect.

The pieces to the Leap Frog Bilingual Memory Mate game are sturdy cardboard and the puzzle like edges make it even easier for little hands to pick them up.

Kids can enjoy this game independently (hallelujah!) by making their own matches or play with this game with the whole family

The leap frog memory game is both sturdy and durable in the hands of three boys ages 7, 4, 2. I do only use half of the cards at a time as advised by others reviewers. It has provided fun and learning for my kids.

The Memory Mate game is a hit with my four year old son. He already loves puzzles and matching games so this added to the fun. Hopefully he will learn Spanish along the way with the bi-lingual cards.
