3.0 out of 5 stars My son and I didn't like it!!!!!
Well I had purchased this toy for my 9 month old son and returned it the next day. We have the fisher price intelli table so I bought this also to see which one he liked more. He kept playing with the intelli table more and a couple times he tried pulling up on the leapfrog table and it kept tipping over so I took the legs off and he touched it a couple more times but...

5.0 out of 5 stars Music Table, November 9, 2003

My son received this table when he was 8 months old, and still plays with it on an almost daily basis. The legs are detachable, I guess so it can be placed on the floor for babies, but we never did that... This table helped our son into a standing position, and encouraged him to "cruise". The variety of music it provides is great, and hasn't even begun to get old yet (even for mom & dad). Now at almost 2, I've noticed that my son is starting to make his own music instead of just "pressing buttons" . Pressing the drums, the piano, then back to the drums... I'm sure this table will last for years to come, especially once he becomes more interested in his letters, numbers, and colors. I would DEFINITELY recommend this product for EVERY child!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a hit with the whole family!, October 21, 2002

I just recently splurged on this for my 8 month old son. He is just learning to stand up on his own and is constantly trying to pull things off tables or bother our poor dog. I quickly realized that an activity table might keep those busy hands busy.
I agonized over the purchase, for it was going to be the first big toy I bought for our small house. I looked at the Microsoft Intelli-table, but it looked a little Atari-ish with it's flashing lights in the middle. I looked at the Fisher Price models with the blocks (which were cheaper), but I figured that Legos would be the block of choice soon enough.
I was sold on the LeapStart b/c of the musical theme. It has a banjo that plays bluegrass, a compartment that scats when you open it, it has shapes that plays the drums, a bass that plays the bass, etc. But here is the best part, it is all real music, not some electronic rendition of good music, the real stuff. For parents, it is a godsend, b/c it is not offensive to listen to over and over again (but it does have volume control for those times when you need it).
My child was actually squealing with delight when I gave it to him. It is now his favorite thing to play with, and he has finally found something more interesting than crawling after our old dog. I would have paid much more for this toy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An all around great toy/learning center, December 14, 2002
By
This review is from: LeapFrog LeapStart® Learning Table (Toy)
I could not wait until Christmas to let my 8 month old play with this toy. It was incredibly easy to assemble. It has detatchable legs for those babies who can sit up but cannot stand or just prefer to sit, it has two modes: one is learning numbers, colors letters, and more, and the other mode is a musical mode, the child can change the modes simply by fliping the page of the book. The music is great it is not your standard old mac donald. It has an upbeat jazzy sound. There are grippers on the bottom of the legs so that when baby leans against the table it doesn't move away from her/him. Emily loves this table, in fact when I held her up and faced her toward it her little feet couldn't move fast enough for me to help her over to it. The makers of this table have definately put serious thought into it. So far it is well worth the money!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top of the line activity table "leaps" above the rest!!, October 13, 2002

My son just turned a year old and although he had a ton of learning toys, lap toys, and musical toys, I wanted to invest in a "stand-up" toy. I was sure I wanted an activity table--but which one?? There are so many to choose from!! After studying the tops of endless tables, I came to the conclusion that this was the best one--this was obvious, but was it worth the money? I could get other activity tables for less, even half the price, but they didn't seem as inviting and exciting. I hesitate on spending too much on one item at his age, but after lengthy consideration, I decided to purchase this activity table. I must say, that I never once regretted by decision because it is well worth every penny. Not only is it educational, it also provides tons of entertainment. It took about 30 seconds for me to assemble it, and the fun began right away.

This table has 2 settings; words (letters/numbers) and music/song. There is a "book" in the middle of the table, and the page the book is on determines what mode it is in. When the page is turned, bright lights around the table light up and a mystical sound is heard which is sure to mesmerize your little one. This table has EVERYTHING--shapes, colors, the alphabet, numbers, a piano, several other musical instruments and noisemakers--and my son's favorite part--a small compartment to open and close and to keep busy putting small objects in and out of. There are so many different activities on this table that a child never seems to get bored, especially since each activity serves two functions. For instance, there are 3 shapes to push. In talk mode, it speaks "red square", "yellow triangle", etc. In song mode, different drums are heard when each is pressed. This is just one corner of the table--I couldn't possibly go into everything this table has to offer.

I take great comfort and knowing that when my child is playing with something and is so involved in it, that he is learning his abc's or how to count to ten or learning his colors or shapes at the same time. The look on his face as he dances to the music is priceless. I bought this item for my son's first birthday and it is still a huge hit to this day. My only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner. I recommend that as soon as your child starts pulling himself up, that you buy this toy. My child hasn't lost interest and I haven't needed to replace the batteries, oddly enough. The legs are sturdy and just the right size. It keeps my child busy for a long block of time, which, of course, is very nice for Mom!! You may pay a little more for this than the other activity tables, but you will not regret it. This is a quality item, with many educational and stimulating aspects, and I recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun!!, November 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: LeapFrog LeapStart® Learning Table (Toy)
My daughter received this as a gift before she could pull herself up and we used it with out the legs. She liked it right from the start. She is now 18 months and still loves to play with it. it has been fun watching her catch on to all the different things that it does and sounds that it makes. It is very durable and sturdy as she is now climbing on top of it and it doesn't tip over. The sounds and music are not too annoying either! highly recommend this play table!!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you had to limit yourself to one toy....THIS IS IT., October 17, 2003

This toy is the best. My son received this toy for Christmas last year. At 8 months, he would pull himself up on this toy and press the buttons all day. It was great because it encouraged him to stand while holding his attention.

He is now 12 months and still LOVES this toy. There is a door that opens and closes and I put little goldfish crackers in there. I started that a while back and it was so cute to watch him learn the whole object permanance concept -- that the goldfish were still there even though he closed the door.

Now he goes there for crackers all the time. It's a fun place to put a snack.

I would recommend this toy above any other -- and believe me, we have tons!

Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mommy to Busy Boy, November 22, 2002

What a great toy! I must confess that it's supposed to be a present, but we tried it out before wrapping it for Christmas for our son to see if he would play with it and make sure the sounds aren't too obnoxious. He is 4 months old and I wanted to get him something that he could play with now (meaning Christmas) and also grow into. He is already playing with the buttons and slides and loves watching the lights flash, although I had to help him sit up to see what he was doing. But considering that it's recommended for 6+ months, we knew we were cheating. I had to wait for him to take a nap to take it away and put it back in the box because it held his attention so well, which is remarkable for a 4 month old. I rated educational value as only 4 stars because I think there are more educational toys out there, but by being entertaining and holding his attention, the repetition should be of benefit. After reading some of the other reviews complaining about the noise, I have to disagree. The high volume setting could be a bit loud, but the low setting is very tolerable. We looked at a lot of different electronic learning tables and toys and some of the sounds are truly obnoxious. I'm not sure what some of the other parents expect to hear from a toy that is supposed to play a variety of music and interact verbally with their child. Maybe they haven't listened to some of the competiton? Overall, I am very excited about re-introducing this to our son at Christmas (if we can wait that long)!

I picked this activity table over all the other tables because it had a wide variety of things to do and did not have any loose pieces. My 12 month old son really loves it. He has a pretty short attention span, but he plays with this toy longer than any of his other toys. I also think it halps him to practice standing. It's very sturdy and he can pull up on it. It also has 2 modes. The music mode and the learning mode. The music mode makes everything on the table musical and the learning mode does the ABC's, 123's, and concepts like high, low, open, and close. I also like the music. It is very swingy and it is not as annoying as other toys that play music. It also plays a wide variety of songs and has a high and low volume switch. We love it! It was worth it even though it costs a little more than other activity tables.

I never would have purchased this toy for my children (3 yr old son, and 2 yr old twin sons) because in general, I don't like the noisy LeapFrog products, but I have to admit, my kids all adore this toy. My older son enjoys pressing all of the buttons and musical instruments and changing the mode by turning the book page, and my twins, who are developmentally delayed (one more so than the other), also enjoy the cause-and-effect activities where they are rewarded with different sounds and lights for touching different things. This is just a great toy. Mercifully, there is a "soft mode" in addition to a "loud mode," and you can turn the table off as well when you just can't stand listening to it anymore. But mostly, ours stays on, and is played with constantly by our three, together and separately. I guess that's really the best thing about this toy - three kids can and will stand around it all playing with it together - it is not something that one needs to "hoard" away to enjoy.
