5.0 out of 5 stars wish my kids had it
We just bought this for our nephew, age 3. It teaches not only the letters, but the sounds each letter makes. It was very fun and entertaining for our niece, age 1, who "previewed" it today. I wish this toy had been around when my kids were getting ready for kindergarten. Also has a song for each key and teaches colors, too. Fantastic educational value.

3.0 out of 5 stars Leapfrog Alphabet Pal - Green
I saw a Alphabet Pal @ a friend's house & liked it so much that i bought one for my son right afterward. But i bought this one which is somehow not the same. This one doesn't have the songs like the one at my friend's, instead just music. My son has a lot of musical toys already & this one doesn't stand out in that category. Sound is just ok.

Overall it's...

This toy is worth the $.

We had the older version - where the individual legs moved (like the purple one) - and had to replace it because another kid really liked the toy and we gave it to them.

Why this rules - 26 songs, letters, learn colors, learn the alphabet song. It talks. It keeps my child entertained. 2 volume settings. Very durable. My kid has dropped it off the coffee table multiple times and dragged it everywhere. It rolls smoothly on carpet or on hardwood. Bright colors. Voice is at a comfortable pitch.

There's been several different upgrades since the original one - it no longer spells out "words" - it used to when you put the letters together. The new one has a softer more "velvety" feel. It's smaller. Everything about it is the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 1/2 year old loves it!, November 27, 2009

It is a pull toy, but the string is rather short. However, that doesn't stop her from pulling it around to hear the Alphabet Song. Great toy at an affordable price (as of right now, anyway). I tried to find the LeapFrog Alphabet Bus (which seems to be the toy my kids argue over) to give for Christmas and found that the price has skyrocketed her on Amazon. Maybe this little guy is taking the bus' place.

This was the first gift my 2 year old opened on Christmas morning and it was also the last. He played with it instead of opening his other gifts... practically had to bribe him to eventually open gifts later in the day! This toy stays out all the time and he LOVES to push the buttons and hear the letters. He already knows most of the letters and this just reinforces that knowledge when he plays with it!

My son has the green version of this toy and I am very impressed on the durability of it and the educational value of it. My son loves the music setting on it and presses the buttons all the time. He is only 13 months so he doesn't get the concept of it yet but still loves it just the same. Also if any of the other parents haven't figured it out (thanks to my sons father) in the setting where it sounds out the different letters it will not allow you to spell out any bad words. I think that is great! I can't believe that the manufacturers thought of that. I would get this for any child!!

My daughter loves this toy! She actually sits around chewing the string and pulling it over and over to hear the song. She can sing A through G but tries to sing the whole thing and she is only 15 months old. It is so cool watching her play with it and watching her trying to figure out how to make the same sounds as "Katy the caterpillar" or as Leap Frog calls it, "Alphabets Pal". This toy was the best choice for her first birthday in my opinion. She has had it for 3 months, plays with it all the time and I still have not had to change the batteries. She throws it around and Katy keeps on going, the only trouble is that it is a little heavy so when she puts her toys away it take more effort to get Katy put away, oh and she dropped it on her foot on day, that hurt! But don't let that stop you, Thanks to this toy my daughter will probably know her ABC's by the time she is two! Did I say I love this toy, well, "I love this toy!"

Bought one for my grandson and one for my granddaughter for Christmas..they haven't opened their present yet but I inspected the gift. Very cute says the alphabet and also makes the letter sounds among many others things. My grown children tried to make it say "bad" words by putting together different letter sounds...couldn't do it...toy laughs and says it tickles. I think it is very good educational pull toy.

I suggest you don't buy this toy for your child or the child of anyone you wish to continue speaking with! It has two settings: loud and extra loud. The noises it makes are extremely obnoxious and anyone with kids knows that they will find the worst one and push the button over and over again.
It has survived being pushed off the couch and thrown on the floor. No matter what my daughter does to it the thing wont die!
We finally hid it in the closet one day just so we didn't have to listen to it anymore.

I bought this toy in the hopes that my son would play with it and learn the alphabet. It's a cute toy and the songs are nice. But the alphabets are too small for a 1 or 2 year old to notice. If you look at the picture of the toy, the alphabet is printed in white letters on the rainbow part of the toy. Not that noticeable at all. I can image he would perhaps learn to associate the colors of the keys with the color words, but I doubt he would ever figure what the letters are and relate it to the sounds. I think maybe the elmo alphabet bus would have been a better purchase.
