I have math tests nonstop at my school and this really helped me out. I would really recommend Mind Station connector (sold separately) to download chapters to a cartridge. It feels like you are playing a game with the music in the background and it gives you time to think and when you are ready it shows you the choices. I have math tests nonstop at my school and this really helped me out. I would really recommend Mind Station connector (sold separately) to download chapters to a cartridge. It feels like you are playing a game with the music in the background and it gives you time to think and when you are ready it shows you the choices. If you don't get it on the first time, it gives you a short reminder of how to solve it.
I keep all my addresses in this and the dictionary is really helpful. I didn't know studying could be so much fun. You can even take the faceplate off and have it just be silver.
If you want it to be more advanced than buy a harder cartridge. They even sell a test prep SAT which will be helpful to me in the future.
If you want your child to look forward to studying, I would consider this item. I have been using this since my mom bought it for me 2 years ago.

4.0 out of 5 stars Valuable Educational Tool, September 3, 2002

As with any educational product of this type, there is a lot you can get out of it if you want to. I purchased one last year for my daughter in 6th grade and got a lot of use out of it. By being able to download questions from the books she was using, she always had a handy review with her and was one step ahead of the class. It also comes in handy when they forget to bring their books home. We travel a lot with sports and this is a very good tool to use in the car to study. She will be using this through 8th grade and loves it. I am now in the process of ordering another one for my younger daughter who is starting 5th grade this year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally Figured out the IQuest and MindStation Products, December 5, 2002

As a parent of 5th and 7th grade children, I was interested in researching the IQuest. Initially it was very confusing as the companion products, being the MindStation, various math and science catridges, and blank catridges for use with mindstation, aren't really well explained as they related to each other. I wasn't sure if I needed to buy the entire lot, or just a few pieces. After viewing the leapfrogtoys.com website, and buying the IQuest and Mindstation package, I determined the best way to go is to buy the two pieces of hardware, mentioned above, and then some of the blank 4MB catridges. This enables the user to download specific textbook material, chapter by chapter, and then "play" with this stuff in the Iquest. It is much more helpful than buying the generic math and science catridges advertised for grades 5 - 8. The Mindstation internet connector is easy to set up and use, and it's easy to find your child's textbook and download the appropriate chapters. The kids are finding the Iquest fun to use and I think it will be helpful, particularly in Math and Science.

It's a little pricey, ... for the IQuest and Mindstation, and the 4MB catridges are [cheap], but you only need one or two per child as they can be erased and reused for different subjects or different chapters as your child works their way through the textbook material. There's also a small fee to keep connecting to the website once the 6 mo trial expires, .... So far we feel it's money well spent.

For my son's last b'day, he went to look for a gameboy type of toy but when he saw iquest, he chose that. He has had it for over 6 months now and it is his constant companion. He was in second grade when we got it and he has already mastered the 6-8 grade science cartridges and is working on social studies now. It is fun way to study and definetly lot more meaningful way of spending time then playing gameboy. We recently decided to get the Mind Station also to expand the iquest capability.
It has been well worth the investment.

I am a fourth grade teacher and the mother of a 6th grader. As an educator and a parent, I love this product. The product allows for muliple publishers, which is great. My public school fourth graders love this, and it has our publishers, and my 6th grade private schooler , has her publishers. The chapter challenges are a great way for children of this era to study because its very similar to how they play, with the Nintendos and Playstations, and Gameboys etc.. I am very impressed, so impressed in fact that I have written a grant for a class set.

IQUEST IS A WONDERFUL WAY FOR MY 6TH AND 8TH GRADERS TO STUDY MAIN IDEAS FROM THEIR SCHOOL TEXTBOOKS. FINALLY, SOMEONE CREATED THE TECHNOLOGY TO DOWNLOAD DIRECTLY FROM TEXTBOOKS AND HELP STUDENTS TO REVIEW AND PRACTICE VIA THE IQUEST HANDHELD. WE PREFER TO USE THE BLANK MEMORY CARTRIGES TO DOWNLOAD CURRENT CHAPTERS. I HAVE TO ADMIT I WAS SKEPTICAL AT FIRST, BUT AFTER USING THIS FOR A FEW MONTHS,I CAN HONESTLY TELL YOU THAT IT IS A PURCHASE WELL MADE. THIS TRAINS STUDENTS HOW TO TAKE TESTS WHILE SHOWING THEM WHAT THE KEY POINTS OF THE CHAPTER WERE.WE OWN THE MIND STATION WHICH MAKES DOWNLOADING A SNAP ON TO THE IQUEST HANDHELD. THE ONLY PROBLEM WE'VE EXPERIENCED IS A COUPLE OF THE BLANK MEMORY CARTRIGES DIDN'T GET RECOGNIZED BY THE MIND STATION. WE HAD TO EXCHANGE FOR NEW DISKS. A GREAT STUDY TOOL THAT MAKES LEARNING MORE INTERESTING. A GREAT BUY.

I bought this toy for my 8 year old son who is in third grade and he absolutely loves it. He plays with it all the time and takes it everwhere we go. He also got a PS2 for christmas and he has played with this as much as the PS2 or more. Don't worry about age, this is recommended for 5th grade and up (I don't think you can download test questions off the internet for this until 5th grade (is as low as they go?) You put in the name of the textbook they are using and the chapters they are studying and it will give you questions based on the book you are using in school. I can't wait to use this feature. You do have to buy a mindstation and some disks for this though. It has a lot of questions in there and my son has done questions for 8th grade already. I think that other 3rd graders could use this just as well too. Definately worth the money.

Our daughter has been asking for a Pocket PC ever since I got one! When she got this under the tree, she loved it. So far she has entered her friends names into it and has started keeping a mini-journal on it.

But the "toy" features are just the window dressing. That's what starts to get them involved in the educational aspects.

My one complaint is that, so far, the educational parts of this seem to start at 5th grade. Our daughter is in 4th grade. She's not interested in the LeapPad books. And she is totally capable of working with the iQuest. But the educational content doesn't begin on iQuest until 5th grade - and after attempting to use it she found it too difficult.

We're hoping to see some 4th grade content soon, otherwise she won't benefit from the quizzes for another 6-12 months. Still, it was a good buy for us. She loves it even though it doesn't have all the content she wants to use yet.

My sister bought this for my daughter(11yrs) last Christmas---It is fabulous!!!!She is an excellerated learner in challenge classes, yet really needs help with spelling---the dictionary feature is used all the time - she carries her i-quest daily to school - and her pre-algebra book is on the 6-8th grade cartridge--her teachers even like to play with her i-quest ....what a great tool - wish they had this kind of thing when I was a kid-would have helped me.
