Product Description

Product Description

Hop aboard the LeapFrog Leap's Phonics Railroad for some real learning fun. The motorized train sings, talks and teaches the alphabet, phonics, rhyming, letter/word association and 3 children's songs all with realistic train sounds. Place one of the included 7 letter blocks in the coal car to bring the train to life and transfer cargo between the Letter Station and the ABC construction site. Turn the signs to stop train. Includes parent guide and instructions.

Amazon.com

The adorably designed Phonics Railroad captivates young learners with motion, lights, color, and lots of sound effects. Whistling and blowing its stack, it makes quick circuits around the track, controlled by command buttons that light up when pressed. But its educational functions require the included set of "smart" alphabet blocks. Five of the blocks’ sides show a letter and matching illustration. When placed face down in the coal-carrying car, the train says the letter’s name out loud, its phonetic sound, and a word for the illustration. The sixth block face is an icon that commands one of three familiar songs, or an instrumental. A bridge, train station, and wrecking ball give kids more to do with the blocks (like storing, knocking down, or putting words together) when they aren’t listening to them. Requires four "AA" batteries (not included). --Diane Beall

I love this toy! We have not had any problems with the wrong letters like the other reviews. Maybe they have made an improvement. My 3 year old just thinks it is a lot of fun, but Mommy love that he is learning so much. He sings the song with the train so he is learning all of this letter sounds. He is even learning vowels because whenever you put one the the train, he chimes in the leaps voice and says "vowel aboard"
I have recommended this toy to anyone who would listen! I absolutely love it!

If you have boys, get this train! It is SO educational but durable. Ours has been dropped, kicked, sat on, you name it and it just keeps on going. The only problem with this toy is that you probably need to get the rechargable batteries since it requires so many and they really don't last very long unless they're Duracells (yes, there really IS a difference). This toy is just adorable and my other complaint is that I wish they would make more track and more blocks to put into the caboose.

If you're looking for that one toy which will get your child's attention then look no more because Leap frog has created a winner. My 3 year old loves this train. When we set up this train, she just fell in love. It's very sturdy, the train itself looks beautiful and makes very realistic sounds. Also, the tracks are also quite long and wide so no fear of the train falling off the tracks. Best of all, they can learn their ABC's with this train and the blocks are just awesome.
Personally, I haven't seen a better looking train so far. Go Leapfrog!!!

We were looking for a train set for our 22 month old son. Most train sets we were looking at were for children at least 3 & up. We love the Leap Frog products so we were confident that this would be another great educational toy. He loves his "choo choo" and plays with it all the time!!! He loves switching the blocks out to hear the different songs and sounds of the letters. The only feature that would I change would be that all the train cars would be connected. The last train car detaches from the rest of the train. Since my son knows that it comes away from the rest of the train, he likes to take it off (which has a tendency to put the rest of the train off track).

I have had the same problem as the others with singing the wrong letter. I got on-line with LeapFrog and they were extremely helpful in sending UPS to pick up my old unit and shipping me out another unit. The problem is that the new unit is also defective. It doesn't seem as bad. It confuses the letter e with b and possibly the d. I believe it is trying to say bee, but the "buh" isn't getting out. This is definitely a problem with the design and not the individual units. I can't speak to the problems with the train because I haven't let my 2 year old play with it long enough to tell whether or not the train is going to keep working.
The toy is a wonderful concept and my child really likes it and I am sure when I take it apart again tonight (just got the replacement from LeapFrog yesterday) he will be disappointed.
Great Toy. Please fix the problem LeapFrog!

My just turned 2 year old son received this for Christmas. It was a huge hit! The train is adorable and a great size for little fingers. It is very easy for a young child to operate. The train moves around a figure 8 track by itself and plays songs depending on which letter block is put in the train. My son has already identified some of his favorite songs and knows how to make them play on the train. Biggest surprise of all was that our 5 year old - who is just learning letters and sounds - is playing with this also. He seems very proud that he knows the sounds the letters make. Some of my favorite features; a volume control, a big sturdy box for storage when the train is not in use, easy to assemble so that an older sibling can "help out", no little pieces that will easily fall off and get lost, great voice/sound quality (unlike some other electronic toys). ...

My 2 year old son received this as a gift and LOVED it. He played with it constantly and was easily one of his favorite toys. It's very educational and fun. That's the upside. The downside? Batteries last all of a day (when used as much as my son used it). There is a "known issue" according to LeapFrog customer support about the train not moving some of the time. This happened to us and new batteries wouldn't fix the problem. There is a tab in the battery compartment that isn't secure and causes it to make the train stop. All according to LeapFrog reps. They didn't offer to send a replacement engine. For the price and the fact that it only worked well for about two weeks, I expected more from the company. It is a great toy if you're lucky enough to get one that works. My son was absolutely heartbroken when we took it down.

My 3 y/o loves his train! His attention span is very short but he plays with this from the time he wakes up til the time he goes to bed. Not only the train part but he also likes to build towers with the blocks then knock them down with the ball. We haven't figured out all the features of this since he's happy with it the way it is for now. I like that it sings the same song that his other leap frog toys sing so it's consistent in teaching phonics. On the negative side it goes through batteries like crazy. Gets off the tract easily and has a hard time going up the hill. We learned if we send it one direction (so it goes over the hill before the bridge) it works better than the other. It sometimes gets stuck on the hill and needs a little push to get going. Besides that it's a very neat toy.
