Fun and Learning at the Letter Factory

Based on the bestselling LeapFrog educational DVD Letter Factory, LeapFrog Explorer Learning Game: Letter Factory continues the learning fun and alphabet interactions. The DVD (sold separately) and learning game will help your child learn how to recognize letter patterns and independently connect letters to form new words. Letter Factory is recommended for children ages 3 to 5 years old.

Teaches
  • Letter recognition: Children who can recognize letters with confidence have an easier time learning letter sounds and word spellings.
  • Letter sounds: To read independently, children must understand the relationship between the sounds in spoken words and the letters that represent those sounds.
  • Word building: As children put together letters to make words, they learn how even small changes (changing mat to man to can) result in completely new words.
  • Handwriting: Children learn the basics about using a writing instrument to create letters and words.

This was purchased as a gift for a four-year-old grandson. He loves it!!
I taught school for 40 years before I retired--the last 18 years were in preschool. If I still were teaching I would get several of these players and games to use in centers for the children. This game teaches capital and lower case letter identification, how to write them, and phonics in a most delightful way!! The game shows how a letter is made and then the child traces it in the right way or tries again until he has it. Great feedback!! And most of all--fun, fun, fun!!

This game does a really good job of taking advantage of Leappad's touchscreen technology. I can't speak to how well it performs on the Leapster, but on the Leappad it is intergrated very well, you can click all over different planes of the screen to find letters, and there's a neat fature where the child can "wipe" away the fog from character to reveal a letter.

My four-year-old really likes the letter songs, which only plays if you complete two letter activities (recognizing the letter and learning it's phonetic sound), so it works as a great incentive to get her to play the game. Unfortunetly, it's the time-consuming and challenging "catch the balls" activity that has to be completed after the phonics section that she struggles with, often failing to earn letters for reasons that have nothing to do with the skill she's being taught. That is the only aspect of the game that's frustrating to me as a parent.

The educational value, and design are of high quality on this product. The interest from my child is mid-range. She likes it better than Toy Story 3, which she never enjoyed, but less than the Ultra Books she has. As a parent it's my favourite for it's educational value.

This is one of my daughters favorite games on her leap pad. She is 3 1/2 and while she already knows her letters pretty well, this is helping to cement the sounds with the letters in her mind. This game teaches what the letters look like, what they sound like, and how to write them, all using fun little games. I love it when kids are having so much fun learning that they don't realize they are actually learning! It's definitely an easier game for the little ones. My 7 year old played it for a minute and got bored since he can already read etc

My 4 year old grandson loves this game. He is an independent learner and has been able to really focus on all that the game teaches - sounds, rhyming words, letter formation, etc. - and have fun while doing it. He was recently screened for kindergarten and passed with flying colors, partially due to the games he plays on his Explorer.

My daughter enjoys this game and has learned a lot. The only problem is that she had trouble understanding how to move around in the game and needed help. Make sure you sit with your kids while they play so you can help them when needed.

This game is great for my 3K son. He needs to learn his alphabet- letters, sounds, and writing. He feels like a "big boy" playing his game and he is learning! We like it.

My 3 year old loves the movie that this game is based on, so I was so excited when I found this on Amazon. My son was thrilled, however, it has a lot of little things to do that are difficult for new learners (lots of steps, confusing instructions). He rarely plays it. I'm disappointed.
