5.0 out of 5 stars Good for Thomas Fans
My 3 year-old boy, and 4 & 1/2 year-old girl received this leap book for Christmas and I kid you not, have played with it daily since then. My 3 year-old boy, and 4 & 1/2 year-old girl received this leap book for Christmas and I kid you not, have played with it daily since then. My children were already into Thomas and his friends (they have the trains and have checked out the videos from the libray, etc.). This is just another way for them to enjoy the stories and characters (unfortunately, no female characters i.e., Lady, Annie, or Mavis).

Simply stated, if your son or daughter is a Thomas fan, this is a must have. I don't know, however, if its appeal would be as strong for a child who was not already familiar with, or a fan of Thomas & friends. The games and concepts are developmentally appropriate, but not incredible. Nevertheless, my kids are learning from and loving this LeapPad. Thomas fans will not be disappointed!

My 3 years old is a Thomas fan. He enjoyed this book very much. The great thing about it is that he can interact with the characters he loves. It is a typical Thomas story that is full of games to help the kids recognize words and play memory games. If your child is a Thomas fan he will certainly enjoy it.

Santa brought this Thomas Leappad book for my 5 year old this past Christmas. He's a Thomas fan and has been so since age 3. He enjoys the games, even though he has mastered them already and finds them fun. He can now read the story even without the Leap Frog reading along. I believe it has encouraged him to read the past few months.

I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who said that if your child is a Thomas fan, this leappad book is a MUST HAVE.

My son loves Thomas the tank engine & was so excited to receive this book for his leap pad. The story is typical Thomas & he really enjoys hearing it over and over. The games get a little boring after the first 20 or 30 times, but overall it is a good book. I wish they would make the pages a little more durable for preschoolers, this one has gotten several small tears from the cord of the pen. For the price it would be nice if the pages were laminated or something.

5.0 out of 5 stars pre-reading, listening skills, June 9, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: LeapFrog LeapPad Educational Game: Thomas the Really Useful Engine (Toy)
My son's become obsessed with the Thomas stories and his wooden Thomas trains so this was the perfect Leap Pad book for him. He's excited to try out his skills identifying the names of the engines on the pages (he does this while watching the show too, because they flash the engine names on cards between episodes), and has started to identify other words as well. He has yet to "read" the words with the pen sequentially though--he just pokes around looking for words he thinks he recognizes. The instant feedback--he hears the word when he touches the pen to it--is a great reinforcer. He has auditory processing challenges, yet actually enjoys playing the games that require him to listen carefully. I've noticed that none of his computer games challenge his listening skills--he can easily use his visual skills to figure things out. Not the case here, so that's a real benefit for us. It took him a while to get used to pressing the proper green "go" signal every time he turns a page (if you don't do this, you will get the wrong sound when you touch the word) so I supervised him at first lest he get mixed up when he touched "Thomas" and heard "rain" or some such.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thomas is Great!, January 4, 2006
This review is from: LeapFrog LeapPad Educational Game: Thomas the Really Useful Engine (Toy)
My 3 year old son loves Thomas the train and loves this book! Although he doesn't understand all of the games yet, he still loves to "read" the book and point to different things on each of the pages. This is a great addition to our LeapPad Library!

5.0 out of 5 stars If your child loves Thomas....theywill LOVE this book too!, December 28, 2004
This review is from: LeapFrog LeapPad Educational Game: Thomas the Really Useful Engine (Toy)
My son is a 3 1/2 year old Thomas fan. Usually I have a hard time getting him to read books independently, but with this book and Leap Pad System....he reads it at least once a day. He also likes the games and other fun things to do listed on the bottom of the book (like the different whistles sounds, Henry's emotions, etc.)

My 4 year old daughter absolutely loves this book. She has 4 other leapstart books, but always chooses this one. She has used it so much that it is now starting to fall apart. She takes it everywhere she goes, even has to sleep with it. She also enjoys listening to her daddy read it to her before bed! Can't say enough about this book-recommend!

If you have a Thomas fan, then be sure to get this book for their leappad. It's just a very cute story and the train sounds are very realistic and quite neat. Of all the books, this one is used the most in our house and it is quite entertaining. It gets used almost daily and the interest is not fading even yet. Highly recommend!
