4.0 out of 5 stars Very cute, but you'll spend a fortune on batteries!
I think this is really neat, and it has a catchy song, but I can't tell you how fast is goes through batteries. I finally got fed up with putting new batteries in it so often (and my kids used it, but they didn't use it THAT much!), that by the time they were old enough to use it sitting up, I got sick of it and put it away.

3.0 out of 5 stars disappointing at 5 months
We thought this gym would be so much fun for our 5 month old grandaughter, but she is bored with the lie down mobile. The music and words are nice, but there is really nothing you can do with the mobile. So we switched to sit up mode,as she sits pretty well for awhile. What a disappointment!HER ARMS ARE TOO SHORT TO REACH THE BEAUTIFUL SPINNING GLOBE,or the other fun...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea!, December 4, 2003

All in all I really like this toy... However, I feel that it is for older babies (i.e. 7-8 months).
The whole look of the toy is great... the spinning globe is wonderful. I haven't used it in infant mode but mostly because my son hates being on his back. I have it in sit-up mode but he's too young to sit on his own so the only way he really gets to play with the toy is by my bracing him while he stands (which isn't as bad as it sounds).
I have to say I really love the fact that approaches different languages in a fun, interesting way both through `abc's' and music.
It plays great music and generally I love Leapfrog toys and I appreciate this one I just can't wait to see how he responds to the toy when he's a little older.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT AGE-APPROPRIATE: Great idea but VERY DISAPPOINTING, October 20, 2003

Great idea on educational front but it looks like Leapstart failed to do some testing of the product on real babies. My daughter is almost 6moths old and she can't reach any of the controls except for the moving mobile! And this is branded as a "Birth +" toy?! We might have to put this away until she's either bigger or until she can sit upright on her own and use it in sitting position. Hopefully the sit-up position is better designed so she can reach the controls on her own. We'll see. PS: I just read reviews of my First Touch Leap Pad for 6months+ and it looks like the product is not age appropriate either. Very disappointing, Leapstart!

5.0 out of 5 stars My baby LOVES this!, January 9, 2004
This review is from: LeapFrog LeapStart Learning Gym (Toy)
This learning gym is awesome! I love that it's versatile enough so my baby can use it now, at 3 months, and continue to use it as he grows and learns to sit up. My son is a cranky baby because he has acid reflux and this is one of the few "toys" he has that he thoroughly enjoys!! He spends lots of time on the floor kicking his legs and arms about, chatting and smiling away at the blinking lights. He loves the music and really enjoys watching the spinning globe. I've read reviews of this toy with parents complaining that it's no good for an infant because they can't reach the buttons and such, but if you just invest the time in your child and help them play with it (spin the globe for them, push the buttons, etc) you will see their little faces light up with pure joy. I highly recommend this product!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A gym for your child to grow with., October 5, 2003

This gym is nice and will truly be useful for quite a long time. There are two modes - a learning mode and a plain musical mode. The musical mode is nice because it introduces several different types of beats and rythms to the child and my daughter seems to like the music very much. The learning mode is nice and although she can not truly appreciate it just yet - she is only 3 months old - she does smile a lot when the lady sings the song. I also like the fact that they introduce different languages to the child.

The nice part of the mobile is that it does move so that it draws her attention to the different obfects on the gym. However, the mobile could be a bit more interactive and that is a bit of a downfall, but my daughter can't reach to interact with many of the gyms anyway - her arms and legs are too short.

Overall I think that this is a gym that your child will enjoy for quite a long time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Like but not age appropriate, December 4, 2003

I like this toy but it not age appropriate. My daughter is 5 months and she loves listening to the music but of course cannot reach the globe or anything else except for the mobile. I was not that impressed with the mobile either. It's definately good for a 7-8 month baby.

This is an awesome toy. My baby was 9 wks when we started him on it. He began kicking his legs, smiling and cooing to the world music and educational songs..he loved it! It was exciting to see him so stimulated. The music is fun and catchy...so much so that Hubby and I hear the songs over and over in our heads but that's okay. We enjoy singing them to the baby. The buttons are great fun too. I love the door that opens with a mirror and plays an African chant. My husband and I love to travel and we think this is a cool way to introduce our baby to bi-culturalism early on. The mobile encourages the baby to kick and exercise. All and all, a very cool developmental toy!

I am surprised at these other reviews because my daughter loves hers. She got it at 3 1/2 months and would play under it for about as long as I would leave her there. She really likes the spinning mobile. At first she could barely reach it, but now at 4 1/2 months she reaches it with ease and loves to pull on it. I like that it spins slowly enough that she can get her hands on it, and it is made so that she can pull it and turn it without messing it up. It is true that she cannot reach the other toys on the gym, but once she can sit up, I think she will enjpy those things.

Our son was 7 months old when we recevied the Learning Gym. He is now 1 & still enjoys playing with it. He loves spinning the ball & changing the page from music to words. The base is really sturdy & I didn't have to worry about it tipping when he was still a little wobbly on his feet. We've enjoyed the toy & are really glad to have it.
