5.0 out of 5 stars Totally love this letter factory and I am amazed at results
I bought this after reading the reviews a little curious if my 3 year old would love it or not care. Well she loves it more than I would have thought possible for a video/game. I was very impressed that within a week she had her letters learned extremely well. She loves to sing the whole song to me and show me how well she knows the sounds of the whole alphabet. The...

3.0 out of 5 stars Buy the video instead
I was disappointed to find this "game" to be more of a video. Since we already own the video, this has been a waste of money. Plus, very, very, little interaction. They can only play a game after each "chapter" of 4 or more letters. That's it, the only game option! It only asks a basic question, like, which letter says "Ahh" or which letter is "A"? IF YOU OWN THE MOVIE,...

The thing that works so well with this product is that instead of teaching a is for apple and so forth they teach the sounds the letters make, and in a way the kids LOVE. Like with a the a is scared and says AAAH, R is an R race car that say the r sound, and with f the f's are learning to fly but have to say fffff to get off the ground. They connect actions with the sounds. It's brilliant and it works. The songs are cute, and its never boring that they watch and learn/play for a long time. They also reinforce by games after every 4 letters. This helps them to check if they are really learning.
I worried about someone's review that sad it would go through batteries like crazy. Totally not true. My kids play the letter factory and other games constantly on the thing and it usually lasts a least 2 weeks. Just put good batteries in it and its amazing.

I truly believe that they should receive numerous accolades from the educational community for this one. First we bought the DVD version and my son watched it multiple times a day, with great excitement. Afterwards he still watches it a few times a week and its been 3 months! After watching it just a few times he has all his phonics learned very well, and he just turned 3. Its a very entertaining video as well, with many humorous parts that keep his attention. When the Leapster cartridge came out we snapped it up just so he could watch it on the go. Also its nice using his Leapster, its sort of an inexpensive alternative to a portable DVD player for a child. We've also bought the talking words factory (DVD) which is just as fantastic, and are eagerly awaiting the "Math Factory" coming soon!! LeapFrog surely has found the magic formula for making learning fun.

My four year old daughter had the DVD for the Letter Factory and was thrilled at the idea that she could take it in the car for her Leapster. I thought she'd bore of it easily with all the repitition but she plays it endlessly. Between the two, in two weeks time she knew all of her letter sounds without hesitation. She is now learning to read and it is so much easier to teach her when we never have to review phonics. Even her older brother who is 8 has picked up on the catchy jingles for the letter sounds (and he already knew his phonics!!). Although she is now a master of letter sounds, she still enjoys watching this cartridge. This is very entertaining, extremely educational and for parents who don't want to push--it's a godsend!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Near Duplicate of Letter Factory DVD, April 16, 2005
This review is from: LeapFrog Leapster® Educational Video: The Letter Factory Gaming Cartridge (Toy)
This is a great learning tool for Leapster. However, we own the Letter Factory DVD and found this to be nothing more than the identical item. I expected more games or expanded learning. There are only 2 simple games. My 5 year old son says "too boring". We have watched our DVD for over a year and love it. This simply was not any different and not a good purchase for us. So, if you don't own Letter Factory DVD, you should get this!

My daughter just turned 5 last week. We have done countless workbooks together and the only area I had trouble teaching to her was phonics. I purchased this cartridge at a local walmart at xmas for the long ride to the in-laws. In all seriousness, she LEARNED phonics within an hour. I CANNOT tell you how awesome this cartridge is. Her favorite is to call out a letter now and we take turns coming up with 5 words that begin with this letter. This has progressed to her reading short words and the ability to sound something out. There is a silly song with the cartridge that keeps her in stitches when the letters go thru an assembly line and an error is discovered in a letter sound..She listens to this cartridge DAILY and never ceases to be bored with it. she could care less about the Dora tape, but this one and the Kindergarten are EXCELLENT. a 10 star rating if I could...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing miracle worker, April 7, 2005

My son has been in speach therapy for 1 1/2 years. He did not start talking till he was 2 1/2. Now a 4 year old, he is as stubborn as I am and wouldn't sing the alphabet song with me, nothing I did could encourage him to learn his letters or his numbers. I stumbled onto this at our base exchange and he loved it. I would let him play with the sample one when we came into the store. I brought my husband to show him how interested he was in the system. So we made the investment. I am amazed. He got this from Santa for Christmas and by the beginning of February, he knew all his letters of the alphabet and what sounds they make! He learned the proper way to make the L sound (hard for him)and when I correct him he starts singing the leapster song. He loves this game. I have since (March) purchased the Word factory and he is trying to READ!! He loves the "sticky letters" concept. I can't believe how well these games are made as to hold the attention of a very busy 4 year old! Who is no longer in speach therapy :)

5.0 out of 5 stars My boys fight over this cartridge., November 7, 2004
This review is from: LeapFrog Leapster® Educational Video: The Letter Factory Gaming Cartridge (Toy)
I got this Leapster cartridge for my three year old. He is really too young for Leapster but he played with his brothers on a long plane trip and loved it. So when my aunt surprised us with a fat birthday check we decided to get him his very own Leapster. It helped to cut down on the fighting around my house until we bought the Letter Factory Cartridge. My three year old loves this cartridge. It plays like a movie if he just wants to watch. It's a game if he wants to play. He can practice learning his letter names or his letter sounds. It's amazing the way it helps my preschooler understand concepts he won't be expected to learn until Kindergarten. But it's not a chore because he's having fun the whole way. My first grader who has already mastered his phonics loves this cartridge as well. My boys fight over this cartridge even though they have eight Leapster cartridges between them. You can't miss with the Leapster Video: The Letter Factory or The Letter Factory on DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily distracted child focuses on this cartridge, August 18, 2005
This review is from: LeapFrog Leapster® Educational Video: The Letter Factory Gaming Cartridge (Toy)
My son is nearly 5 and his attention span is SHORT. He has a color pixter, a leapster, and about 100 CD games for the PC. No single game holds his attention longer. Why? Don't know. He could read at 3 and knew all his letters even longer. You need peace in the car? Need waiting room or waiting in line releif? I recommend this game.

FYI: You have to buy a Leapster first ;-)

I bought this cartridge today for my 4 year old daughter and she is already bored with it. It is more video than it is game and the game is suited more for 3 year olds than the 4-6 group. I am hoping they come out with more selection soon because she really loves her leapster.
