Don't hesitate on buying!,

I agree with the other 99.99% of reviewers. Definitely 5 star. I hesitated on buying it and now am wondering why. Love it! Things I think would be helpful to other people: Once you attach it to the Leapster it automatically blocks the device from getting power from the batteries so it doesn't damage the batteries or device. Other game devices with AC adapters they tell you to remove the batteries, but with the Leapster AC adapter you can keep the batteries in according Leap Frog. The cord stays into the device good and doesn't fall out. The cord is really long. The outlet plug end had a smaller 3/4 inch thick box extension with the prongs behind the larger power pack box that makes it easier for the plug to be tightly snug against the plug socket outlet at home or in the car if it has an three pronged AC power outlet like mine. You can't walk more than approximately (haven't measured it)6 feet away, but if you were playing a PlayStation, X-box, or Nintendo 64. Most kids stay sitting in one spot while they play games even if it is an handheld game console. And when we need his Leapster 2 to be portable he has his rechargeable AA batteries inside. Even rechargeable batteries can be recharged only so many times before you have to replace them as well. Buying this has saved us so much on how often we have to recharge or buy replacement rechargeable batteries.
Update: We used this on a road trip vacation from Florida to Niagara Falls, New York all the way up on the United States/Canadian border and this was a life saver on the extremely long...long road trip in a car. Like I said my car has an three pronged AC power outlet. Worrying about his rechargeable batteries having to be recharged and replaced over and over on the road was not a issue.

I purchased the Leapster Leappad for my child and wanted another way for her to use it rather then buying batteries all the time and decided to buy this AC adapter. I was kinda concerned that this would not work with that particular device but it does, theres a slot for the adapter to pull in and I do not have to worry about having to buy batteries all the time.

If your kids have a leapster you need this, its great. Just think of all the money you will save by not having to replace batteries all the time. I bought two of these from Amazon for my kids and I highly recommend this product.

It works but waste of money,

The batteries in the leapster go dead very quickly so I bought this b/c it was cheaper than the charger, but the problem is that the kids need to sit next to an outlet and play with the cord pugged in. Sometimes this is inconvenoent, b/c I have to be there to set them up, as they are too young to use the electric outlets themselves. Cord works great, but I would suggest spending the extra for the charger. Also you lose your place in your game, even if you are paused, when you unplug to move to another location...not too great. Even though we use the cord, I think it is a waste of money and should have gone for the charger.

Saw conflicting reviews about this products compatibility with the explorer and decided that I would try for myself since it is form amazon I could just send it back if it didn't work. This does work idk maybe the first reviewer was looking for some type of indication that it as plugged in, which I don't think it does at least not anything that I noticed. I took the battery pack thingy off completely to see if it would work and it did. Could not have been anything other than the charger powering it on without batteries. If you need a plug for you explorer then get this one. Its good for you if you just need it to work where theres an outlet available and the cord seems pretty long so your kid wont have to sit right next to the wall, save your batteries for car trips. If you have frequent car trips and dont like buying batteries then I guess the leapster battery pack would be good for you but at more than half the cost of the leapster itself and more than the games i could not justify buying it for our needs since we are mostly at home and I dont allow her to wander around with it anyway.

I got this item to save on batteries for my sons leapster. It was never used often, but after only a few months of use the leapster (which he only ever used with the cord) started acting up. I called leapster thinking it was their product that was acting up. They told me they were happy to work with me, but as step 1 to put batteries in to rule out the cord being the problem. Since using the leapster on batteries the leapster has been working 100% perfect. I believe I can safely assume that the cord / adapter stopped working properly. After reading other reviews I realize I'm not the only one who had this problem. For the relatively cheap price I paid it's not worth my hassle to try and get a refund, but I hope putting this review out there helps others not get stuck with a faulty product like I did.

I bought it for my daughter's leapster explorer and it works! I was very surprised to read the previous review. I tried it with the battery panel removed completely as soon as it arrived and had no problem at all. Although you don't have to remove batteries. We have batteries in the system for on the go play, but at home we just plug it in. saves money on batteries!
