5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves this!
We bought this toy for my daughter for Christmas. She was 8 months old at the time. She loved it then and still enjoys it now, especially since we added the barn and car wash for her 1st birthday. 3.0 out of 5 stars OK....
My son didn't get much use out of the Learning Town toys. When we first got them we thought maybe he was a little young for them but even as he got older he didn't have much interest in them. Of the 3 sets, he liked the garage the most because he could slide the blocks down the ramp.

2.0 out of 5 stars The blocks are boring compared to Fisher Price's Peek a Block, December 30, 2011

These blocks make you think that you can rotate each side to make the "house" say different phrase. Not true. It's all the same regardless of which side you put it. I was hoping that when you see a side that has a "SPOON" or "DIAPER" etc, the toy will say it, not true. All it says are Mommy, Daddy, Baby.

The blocks are not interesting to look at. I prefer Fisher Price's Peek A Blocks. I do not think the written words are stimulating for a baby or toddler (unless you have an einstein baby that can read). Size wise, I'd say it's a good size and easy to grip. Smaller than Fisher Price's Peek A Blocks.

The bottom half of the blocks are painted, and when chewed on
(which all babies do), the paint comes off. As for stability, the "house" can easily tip over.

Another negative aspect of this toy is the drop down area where you can clearly see there is no "floor" to catch the block. If you put it on hardwood floor, beware that the block may dent your floor. Also a baby would put the block one after another, and after two blocks, you will find them stuck because the bottom block just stays there instead of sliding away making room for the second block. You have to sit next to your child and quickily remove the block so your child can drop another one in.

This toy does provide some fun when a toddler drop the blocks down (so do most toddler toys out there).

Bottom line is, if you buy this toy, remember to spend time sitting next to your child to remove the blocks when it falls down, and to read to your child what the word says on the block. Oh, and I would also suggest that you hold the "house" to prevent tipping.

If you are one of many parents that would prefer to have some free time yourself and let your child occupy himself/herself, may I suggest Fisher Price's Roll A Round Gumball toy or Fisher Price Incrediblock?

4.0 out of 5 stars We love this!, June 11, 2008

We love this toy! My daughter was given this for her first Christmas when she was 9 months old. She's now 16 months & its her favorite toy. I love the music and so does my 5 yr old and her little sis. Yes, it tells you that mommy's working in the garden, but daddy is working in the kitchen so I think it all equals out.

I am disappointed by the 'teaches 30+ words' part. There are words written on the blocks but it gives you the idea if you rotate the block that word will be spoken. Not true. It says 4 phrases for each of the 3 blocks, but does not say the vocabulary words.

I highly recommend this for a first birthday toy. Twelve months and up is the perfect age. Baby learns to stack blocks, cause & effect, fine motor of placing the block into the hole. There is also an on/off switch that gives 2 levels of volume. I don't hear much difference between the two levels but maybe someone else will.

We got this when my daughter could sit up on her own and she immediately loved it. The songs are so catchy I've got them all memorized and find myself singing them when I'm not paying attention.
When you put a block in there are only 4 expressions that it will cycle through as you push the block down. The first one is always a greeting "Mommy, hello Mommy". Then comes "When Mommy sings la da de da it's a happy sound, everyone smiles when Mommy's around." , "Mommy, gives a kiss, can you give a kiss?" and "Our house is where we live and where we play, Mommy's working in the garden today." Of course the phases are slightly different for the baby and the daddy block. I don't take any offense to the Mommy working on the garden phrase because I love to garden on the weekend, besides the Daddy block is cooking! :)
We liked this set so much we bought the others. You can mix the blocks from the different sets but it will only name the block, not do all the phrases. The buildings connect with a small tongue and groove at the bases but it's very loose and wont snap together or hold them in place. The blocks are great for stacking and knocking down too. I loved watching my daughter working on her motor skills as she first learned to first press the block down when someone else put it in, then learned to maneuver it in herself. These sets are small enough not to overwhelm baby and perfect for bringing along to Grandma's house.
She doesn't play with this set every day but when she does it holds her attention for quite awhile. Leapfrog also doesn't use pvc or bpa in these toys.
We all love this little house set, and I'd definitely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Toy, March 14, 2007
This review is from: LeapFrog Learning Town Happy Home (Toy)
I bought this toy for my daughter who is 7 months old. She loves it, the blocks are perfect for little hands. It's also easy to use and she can play with it on her own. We liked it so much that we went out and bought the barn. We are soon to get the wash and wax to complete the set.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, January 3, 2007
This review is from: LeapFrog Learning Town Happy Home (Toy)
I'm a Leapfrog product fan, that's why I purchased the Learning Town for my 12 month old. She doesn't show any interest in the toy. I sat down and played with it, and was disappointed by the reactions/words--or should I say lack of words these blocks say. After re-reading the description of the product, I realize it notes "up to" four responses per block.

It does sing a cute song, but overall, we are not happy with it.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Fun, March 20, 2007

The Learning Town is a real bummer. The blocks are fun for my seven month old to chew on, but that's where the fun ends. It seems to be top heavy as well so it just falls over. Overall, this Happy Home is an akward toy with bad sounds and even worse songs. Not to mention the fact that some mommies go to work too rather than "spending the day in the garden".
