5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - Fun and Educational
My 8 year old loves this. We put it under the tree for her and it was the highlight of her Christmas. She plays on it regularly, enjoying it thoroughly.

Heck, even the adults have had fun brushing up on their geography and anatomy with it. It's a real winner.

The 2 complaints: (1) There need to be more books for kids in the 2nd-4th grade range; (2) remember that...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Again!
My 10 year old son received the Quantum Pad for Christmas last year. It was a great gift, everyone in the house enjoyed it. BUT - he quickly became tired of the same books. So, we bought more, in fact, we bought the entire collection of five books. Since then he has read all the books, to the point that he can recite the stories. AND, there are no more books! That...

The 2 complaints: (1) There need to be more books for kids in the 2nd-4th grade range; (2) remember that you'll need to drop more money for new books to keep this product relevant for your childs age.

If your child is between 1st and 3rd grade, likes electronic toys, and can play alone, this is a great purchase. If your child is younger, consider one of the other LeapPads. If your child is older, consider the iQuest (see my review there).

I just got a Quantum Pad for Halloween and can't go anywhere without it! The day I got it I went to my friend's house and on the way over she, her little brother and I couldn't put it down! Her brother is in 3rd grade and we are in 6th. I know that it is recommended for grades 3-5 but there are some things in the books that I don't even know! I already finished reading The Wizard of Oz in 2 days with my system and in the sampler I love the presidents and Europe sections. This is a great buy for any child!

I bought the Quantum Pad rather than the LeapPad as the colors seem less childish. I usually don't buy "fad" toys, but this was an great investment in my kids' education. Everyone from the 14-year-old down to the 3-year-old love to play with this.

This can and does go anywhere, as opposed to our personal computer. We've taken this to piano practice, in the doctor's waiting room, and on car trips. A pair of earphones is essential for quiet play - the sounds drive my husband up the wall! ....

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter's favorite toy!, January 20, 2004

I do admit my daughter is too young for this toy (she got it for her 3rd birthday)--that said, she absolutely LOVES it. She plays with it every single day. We have many different books for her to use with it (mostly LeapPad books since they also play in the Quantum Pad player though she LOVES the sampler book and the other two that came with the quantum pad player when we bought it.) She now knows more about the presidents and the map and flags of Europe than I do! She's also the only 3yo I know who can tell you what many of the bones in her body are called. We buy the books when Toys R Us has a buy 2 get one free sale so we pay $10 a piece for the books instead of $15.

I like it better than the LeapPad player because of it's smaller size--much less cumbersome for my 3 yo to handle.

My only complaint is that we've only had it for 3 months and already we need to send away for a replacement pen. (which is available for $...if the cord is damaged from the Leapfrog.com website, and is free if the cord is not damaged, you just have to send the cord back to the company with your request for a new one).

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting Leap for Learners!, November 20, 2002

I have seen the Leap Pads around, but the Quantam Leap pad involves much more depth and will grow with my child (age 6). I bought it for him as a Christmas present from Santa. I really wanted to see what his reaction to the Quantam was so I took him into the local Toys R Us to spend a few minutes playing with it. He didn't want to leave it. After 10 minutes, I had to pull him away from it. He is so excited to think that Santa might actually give it to him.

So, we bought more, in fact, we bought the entire collection of five books. Since then he has read all the books, to the point that he can recite the stories. AND, there are no more books! That stinks! The online magazine that works in conjunction with the Mind Station is also a waste unless you're a pre-school student. This product was not well planned for the older student. Interesting at first, but a big let down when it comes to expansion...

The toy is excellent. The books are very educational, and new books are coming out all the time. We got hours of quiet play out of this. It is very portable and travels well (great for airplanes).

Our only problem is now after 2 years of constant use, the pen has begun to short out. I cannot find information about replacement parts. I am considering purchasing another one, but am writing to the company for replacement part information before I go to that expense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quantum Pad is the coolest and educational toy!!!, November 27, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: LeapFrog Quantum Pad Learning System (Toy)
My parents bought me the Quantum Pad when I was in 4th grade (now in 6th grade)and my Quantum Pad still has the same batteries since the day we purchased it which was two years ago.I love the Quantum Pad because it is very educational with it I learned about the United States,Multiplication,Spelling,Parts of Speech, and other subjects. My Quantum Pad still looks NEW and my marker still works.Even my sister who is 13 yrs old plays with the Quantum Pad.My parents also say that the toy is very durable. They also tell my sister and I that they are going to buy us the iQuest which is for grades 5-8.I will still play my Quantum Pad.The Quantum Pad is the most educational toy I ever had.DON'T listen to the people who gave the Quantum Pad a bad review. And the price is great it is only $39.99 at Wal*Mart and in other stores it is $49.99(which is still a good price)Everyone in the family likes the Leap Frog educational toys because even my little baby cousin (6 months)has one and also the older ones (10-14)have the iQuest. So from this toy I learned a lot.Oh yeah I spend more time playing with my Quantum Pad than doing something else (Except my homework). So this toy really does deserve 5 stars(*****).I like this toy very much that I can't stop saying it.

I am a grandmother that has always had the leap products for my grandkids, and they have all excelled in school going above their grade levels. Leap Pads and Quantum Pads make learning so much fun and their little brains are like magnets from birth to 10yrs of age! I would advise every grandparent to buy all of these wonderful products!

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter needed this...., January 3, 2003

We have 4 children and as a high school science teacher I know what a difference it makes in a child's ability to do well in high school if they have gotten the basics down COMPLETELY before they get to high school. Our 4th grader has a difficult time with her reading skills and does not have the attention span that we feel she needs at this point in her life. We are constantly having to beg, plead, bribe her to let us work with her on these skills but it doesn't last long before she is up and doing something else. We bought this toy for her with lots of the books and messenger bag for Christmas. SHE LOVES IT!!!!
She will sit down and just work with it and laughs. What a great gift this toy made. The neat thing is we can keep adding on by simply purchasing the books and cartridges as we need to and she won't get bored. A lot of toys are played with for a little while and then forgotten about...not this one!!!! If you haven't bought this for your 3rd-5th grader please check it out...you'll be glad you did!!!
