This seems like a great idea, but in actuality its kind of annoying because if you touch any two sides of the block at once, you hear bits and pieces of two songs. When my son holds the block, he uses two hands and if he turns it at all, you hear snippets of the other songs as well. Its really, really sensitive to touch. Otherwise, its cute to look at, and it has moveable fabric pieces that are also attached, so they arent a risk for swallowing. I turned the sound off, but for $20, its a lot for a block.

We bought this for our 6 month old daughter. She's just starting to sit up, so the Melody Block is keeping her busy. She also like to kick at it with her feet. It's soft there are cute animals to play with, and a nice variety of songs to listen to. I think she will enjoy it even more once she can sit up better!

The only con is the fabric seems to rip easily because we purchased one and brought it home and then noticed a rip in the fabric as soon as I took it out of the package. So we returned that one and this one is fine. Hopefully it holds up longer.

Believe it or not but I bought 4 of these toys. Originally I got 1 for my 3 young grandchildren to play with at my house. When I received it I was so pleased that I ordered 3 more for them to have at their homes also. The toy is pretty good sized, colorful and the music box sounds really nice. It has 2 modes for rhymes and just music. Its a plush toy so no danger of getting hurt. Each side of the block has a animal on it and an activity, 1 side even has a mirror. And it comes with a clear plastic carrying case to keep it from getting dirty. the side thats pointed up is the side that plays the music. The babies are all between the ages of 2 months and 9 months and all 3 of them are fasinated by this toy. It really is 1 of the best buys I have made for them and well worth the money--a must have for little ones that like music and activities and they all do.

My six month old loves this toy. I got it for her before she could sit up and then she would turn her head towards it and look in the mirror. Now that she sits up she loves to open the flap to see the parrot and slide the polar bear and fox. It's soft so I don't won't about her picking it and knocking herself in the head with it. The music and songs are pleasant and not too loud. When it is turned, it does change to song that goes with the side that is facing up. This hasn't bothered really me. In fact, it could be used to teach them not to turn it if they want to hear the end of the song. However, I don't think my six month old really cares. It's more about the colors and textures at this point. Overall, a great toy.

My uncle bought this toy for my niece when she was 5 months old. She loved it then and still loves it 4 months later. She pushes it around and bounces around "dancing" to every song. A lot of the time, this is the only toy to get her to play with someone. I would recommend this to anyone with a baby that can at least roll over and grab it.

My 2-month-old daughter recieved this for Christmas. She loved it then and still is entranced by it 3 months later. She smiles and coos at the songs and has learned to push it and turn it over to start the music. It teaches colors and animals, and the music is really cute and catchy - it's one musical toy DH and I don't mind. I agree with the reviewer who said it would be better if the block would play the music for the side baby was looking at (though we prop her on a bolster so she can see the top). However, the music has two modes - you can push a button and a music from different parts of the world will play depending on which side of the block is up. So when baby can't see the top of the block, we change to this mode, or turn the music off. This is a great toy for teaching colors, animals, and music appreciation. I gave one as a gift to a friend who's having a baby. Highly recommended - it's a huge favorite at our house.

Very cool toy. Our 7 month old adores it and I imagine she'll like it for some time. Each side of the block is different and has interesting visual and tactile features accompanied by optional audible melodies or spoken word rhymes. The melodies are pretty, at different tempos, and are at a reasonable pre-set volume. On the downside, the rhyme option drives me up the walls and I can't deal with the woman's sing-song voice, "WHITE polar BEAR in the icy snow...!!!" Oh man. Fortunately, the rhymes are an option that can be ignored. That said, this is a great toy with enough features to engage your infant through the early months of development.

We received this as a gift for our 2 month old. He is at the stage where he loves to hear music and look at colors. The first time we played the block and held it up in front of him, he just giggled and laughed and tried to move with the music. I think as he get bigger, he will be able to play with it himself. We love the songs and rhymes - it's a great toy!

My husband & I purchased this item for our 9 month old daughter and she loves it! She enjoys the colorful pictures as well as the soft attached toys(which cannot be put into her mouth). I like how you can set it to sing or just play music. We also like how each color/side played it's own type of music like classical, carribean beat, etc.
We also like the fact that she can drop it and it will not hurt her or make a loud crashing noise or break! We enjoyed watching her play with it so much that we purchased it for our friends daughter who is 4 1/2 mos. and she will dance to the music. IT'S SO CUTE.
We highly reccomend this toy. Plus you can even change the batteries if needed and that compartment is hidden very well.

My 8-month old girl enjoys playing with this cube, but when the edge (as opposed to the side) of the cube is facing the ceiling, you do tend to go back and forth between two different songs, depending on the exact position of the cube. It's more of an annoyance for me than for her though. Other than that it's a good-sized toy for little hands and both the music and the rhymes are nice.
