This is long, but you will know everything that you need to know:

PURPOSE OF PURCHASE:
My daughter had just turned 11 months old. I was looking for a fill-and-spill toy that she would not outgrow as quickly as many other baby toys and I was hoping for something that she would use for creative play for the next couple of years. We were skeptical at first because we felt that, although the price is reasonable, we still did not want to throw away $20 and she might not care for it or it may be a little mature for her.

I am so glad that we bought it. It was the last of the gifts that we bought for her first Christmas, and I just know it was meant for her to have.

DESCRIPTION:
Everything is made of hard plastic, except for the checked "blanket" which is like a handkerchief. The basket is packed pretty full with everything inside, but she can easily fit it all back in without help. She loves carrying all of the pieces around in her little hands. (There are many pieces and you don't want them lost!) The full basket is a little heavy for a baby. She did not carry the entire basket around until recently (14 months) and still prefers not to, but she has always taken it off of her toyshelf and sat with it closeby in the floor. I can watch this thing growing with her. She likes to put the food pieces and forks in her mouth. And she LOVES the sounds it makes when the lid opens and closes. She loves the songs that it sings, and let me tell you, the voice is too cute and sweet. She dances while she plays and tries to sing.

POSITIVE:
I love it because it is easy to wipe clean (even though I haven't had to clean it yet), it is durable, it is fun, adorable, AND VERY educational!!

I had not realized before she started playing with it, but it teaches manners (saying please & thank you) and some prepositions, such as: put one cup IN the other cup, spread the blanket ON the ground UNDER the tree...a picnic WITH my friend. It sings the colors of the rainbow. It counts up to four often. It sings short songs about how many sides each shape has, and each of the three foods on each plate is a different shape (triangle pie slice, square cracker, circle orange slice). It asks you to find each shape. The plates are similar to wooden puzzles (only plastic), and she is learning to put the foods in place.

She also LOVES music, and this thing is constantly singing. It even reminds you to push the butterfly button to hear a song. She can play with this toy 100% by herself, and I know that she will not outgrow it any time soon because it is also my favorite of her toys. And when her cousins (4yrs & 11yrs) came to visit, this is the toy that they played with for 2 hours straight! She plays with it more than any other toy (and she has too many toys). We have never had to replace the batteries since she first got it.

NEGATIVE:
The cups are not intended to hold liquids. They each have two holes in the bottom that you could almost stick a pencil through. I like that she will have to use her imagination and also I will not have to worry about the inside of the picnic basket getting sticky with juice and I am glad that ants will not be stored in there. (But some people would rather have usable cups, and if your child tried to use them, it would be messy, so I thought I would mention this.)

The only real negative that I can find is that the talking basket may ask you to find the triangle, but it has no way to know whether you found it, so it does not correct you or praise you. It never responds or gives hints or anything. So basically, it just randomly asks your child to find things, but she may never know if her answer was correct (or wrong!). Therefore, I recommend that Mommy plays with her.

BOTTOM LINE:
I say it is well worth every cent (and more)!

this is a great toy! very durable, bold colors. everything fits into the basket so it's easy to store and not lose pieces. My 18 month old daughter loves playing pretend and this is a great toy for her. Plus, all the food is a shape that fits in it's on spot on the plates, like a puzzle. It helps her with shapes, colors and I can get her to clean up when she's done. And she loves carrying this around the house.

I was going to order the fisher price picnic basket for my baby back at Christmas time even though I had not seen it in person but this one ended up going on sale so I purchased it instead. I'm glad I did now that I've seen the other one in person. This one is large and has much more going on. She loves pulling out all the stuff and chewing on the foods (she's only 9 months). I can see her using this in the future since the basket is bigger and maybe having some educational value then. I have caught her putting the pieces in the right spots on the plate already though (circle, triangle, square).

My 19 month old loves this set-- foods, plates, cups and music. I am reluctant to let her play with it because she can fit the entire circle shapes (cookie and orange) completely into her mouth.

My daughter received this for her first birthday. I love and hate it. Here is why:

Love: 1. She loves it! She likes all the different pieces and taking them out of the basket. 2. It's a toy that will surely be useful for a very long time. 3. It teaches songs and manners. It has shapes and colors. It asks your child to play interactive games with it. 4. It has an OFF mode. Sometimes, you just need one!

Hate: 1. The food pieces easily & completely fit into my average-sized child's mouth. While I don't foresee her being able to swallow any of them, It's still a little disconcerting to see her walking around with a whole toy in her mouth. 2. If you lose even one of the pieces, you will not be able to play all of the games. It specifically asks you to "find the orange" or "put the blue cup inside the purple cup". If my 13 month old loses one of these now, she won't be able to play the games later. 3. The small pieces are forever winding up underneath my couch. The cookie and orange roll very easily. I fish them out every time my daughter plays with the set. It sort of makes me want to keep it up high sometimes. 5. It's unnecessarily girly colored. I think this would be a great toy for a boy, but a lot of people will be put off by the colors of the basket and the butterfly. Why make it gender specific when it's not necessary?

I do recommend this toy for learning and pretend play. But, I wish we had waited until my daughter was a little older before she'd gotten it. My friends' 5 & 7 year olds love playing with it too.

I have never written a review before, but had to for this toy. My 2 1/2 year old daughter and 11 month old son play with this toy constantly and fight over it so much so I am thinking about buying another one. We have more toys than anyone I know. I know the good, bad and easily broken ones on the market. This toy has everything you'd want for your kids.

1. Sounds effects
2. Container to store pieces in
3. Shape-sorter
4. Different healthy food items for your toddler to learn to distinguish
5. Promotes sharing (though my kids are still working on this aspect :)
6. Container has a handle for toddler to tote around (which all toddlers love to do)

I highly recommend this!

We bought this for our youngest daughter, and expected that our two older children would lose intrest with it after a few days...wrong! I enjoy watching all three of them play picnic together. It is a great way to practice sharing and manners, and they don't even realize it!! The music is adorable and there are several pieces to play with!

I recommend this!

I bought this for my 2yr old along with the Potsy and she LOVES it! She'll place the blanket first on the floor and the two plates with food on top. She loves to pretend we're having a picnic and carries the basket everywhere. I love Leapfrog products!

I hated this toy when my daughter got it as a gift. All that plastic and the horrible, noise-making buttons and the worst song about colors you ever did hear. BUT, my daughter LOVES it! It has been, hands down, her favorite toy since she received it when she was around 8 months old. I can now be heard singing some of the songs I detest. They may be growing on me.

My mom got it for my twin nieces after seeing how much my daughter played with it. It is perfect for twins as there are 2 plates, 2 forks, 2 glasses and so nice for sharing. They liked it immediately! My only complaint would be that the glasses have holes in the bottom. My nieces are 3+ and like it so I think the age could be extended for over 3 yrs. it is a great gift!

It's a good toy, but have more stff than needed. The basket and songs are not very engaging. This voice dies not get the child attention to follow directions. The little octopus and balls toys is much more fun. My daughter is 2 1/2 and have this toy for over a year, she still plays only with the shapes on the plates.
