4.0 out of 5 stars Cute ABC book with catchy tunes
ABC Animal Orchestra cardboard book for the Tag Jr.

It features every letter from A-Z, sometimes displaying one letter per page, sometimes two. Each letter is accompanied by a cute animal playing a musical instrument, both the animal and the instrument's name start with the letter in question, which makes it more interesting.

I'm not sure if it...

This review is from: LeapFrog Tag Junior Book: ABC Animal Orchestra (Board book)

I'm not sure if it was just the one I got, but my book was not bright and as such the colors did not come alive. The printing was way too dark for a child's book. Still, you get over this fact quickly enough with the great sounds that come out from each page.

So, what "interactive" parts does this book have?

- Pressing the Tag Jr. on the letters once says the letter out loud, subsequent pressings prompt the user with questions such as "Which animal's name starts with the letter D?".

- Pressing the Tag Jr. on the animals once produces the sound of the instrument he/she is holding, press again and the device ask with what letter the animal in question's name starts.

- Another activity that I found pretty fun was when you tapped your little Tag Jr. on a Cat, after a few tries the device asks you to find another cat in your book, so you have to go on and find the Jaguar or the Tiger.

- The last two pages have a spread out animal orchestra with the complete alphabet above them. Pressing on the letters plays a cute rendition of the ABC song. Pressing on the animals here has the same effect here as in previous pages with the exception that sometimes they play an instrumental version of the alphabet song, which is nice too.

Overall it's a cute book, but don't expect a story here, it's exactly what it claims to be, an ABC Animal Orchestra book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, December 28, 2009

I own the entire Tag Junior library. Check out my reviews before buying books! (I wish I had researched before buying them all!)

This is one that is truly appropriate for the full range specified. Even my 15-month-old daughter loves it and benefits from an alphabet introduction.

Yet, it is not just an ABC book. It is also an animal book and a musical book. It builds vocabulary, it is entertaining, and it periodically challenges your older Tag Junior user to a book-wide search for things. It does show the upper and lower case letters, which as an elementary educator I love. My 3-year-old looked at me with a pretend grumpy face and said, "that gorilla looks grumpy, like this." I thought that was so cute and funny. What I also like about this book is that it doesn't feature the usual "instruments" and has things like Kangaroo's Kazoo, Newt's Nose Flute, Quails' quartet, Tiger's turntable, Yak's yodel, Armadillo's accordian, Cat's congas, Dingo's didgeridoo, Gorilla's gong, Jaguar's jug, Iguana's Indian bells, and so forth. Even my 4½ -year old got a kick out of the newt playing a flute with its nose.

I gave this book "full credit" because it is a good value given that it will benefit the full range specified and then some. Not only that but it's just a cool kids' book. Cool, modern, non-licensed illustrations. LeapFrog thought outside the box on this one and I love it. Don't hesitate.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great beginning book!, December 26, 2009

This is a great starter Tag Jr. book, and has a lot of places for kids to touch with the Tag or Tag Jr. reader and get some fun responses. This makes for great interactive play.

We use this with the Tag reader. ANY Tag Jr. book works with the Tag Reader (that is not true the other way around). So despite the fact that we're not quite ready for Tag books, we bought the Tag reader because it works with both types of books.

My 18-month-old daughter got this book with her Tag Jr. system. It really holds her attention. Each animal (A-Z) has several different noises/sounds/activities. Example: you can push the gorilla several times - one for "G", one for "Gorilla" and one for the Gorilla sound and one for the sound of the instrument the Gorilla is playing. It's very silly and cute.

I love the how durable the Tag Junior books are. They're perfect for my 2 year old. He hasn't quite gotten the hang of the Tag system but the books by themselves are great. We're really enjoying this reading system and I'm so happy that Leapfrog offers Eric Carle, Dr. Seuss and Sesame Street books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Way To Learn ABC's, October 18, 2011

My daughter loves the Tag Jr. ABC Animal Orchestra book. The pictures are all really cute, and each animal corresponds to a letter of the alphabet. Not only will your child learn about the alphabet, but also animals and musical instruments! Three lessons in one book? Yes, please! At the very end of the book, you can play the entire alphabet in order. This is always my daughter's favorite part. The music is really easy on the ears. Overall, this book offers a lot of educational value at a great price. I consider this book to be a must-have if you own the Tag Jr. pal.

My son loves this book the most out of all his tag Jr. books. He loves hearing all of the sounds each instrument makes as well as learning the letters. He sings the alphabet just as the story asks at the very end, every time! If you are looking for an alphabet tag Jr. book, this is the one to get!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Tag Junior Book I've seen, June 22, 2011
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LeapFrog Tag Junior Book: ABC Animal Orchestra (Board book)
This is my son's favorite Tag Junior book. He's almost 2 and he loves all the animals and music included in the book, especially the alphabet song at the end of the book. This is one of his favorite ABC books, and definitely the best Tag Junior book that we own. I highly recommend it to anyone who owns a Tag Junior. Note: If you're wondering whether to get a Tag Junior, I would recommend waiting until the child is old enough for the Tag (around 3) instead. It's great if the child has an older sibling and wants to play with a book like theirs, but otherwise it's probably not worth getting because they will outgrow it quickly.
