5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, solid phonics review, everyone wins
I bought this game for my 5 year old after he has played the Leapster Letter Factory and watched the dvd of the same name. His kindergarten teacher is going to purchase several for the classroom. She says he has an amazing and solid handle on phonics. This game could be a bit too easy for him, but he likes the quasi-competitiveness of it. The nice thing is, the game makes...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so great for every youngster!
I bought this game for my boys after they already learned their letter sounds from the Letter Factory DVD (like everyone else, I HIGHLY recommend the DVD!)
I've been disappointed because:
1) Professor Quigley talks too much, and if several people are playing, it takes forever to get through everyone's turn! There's no way to skip Quigley's whole monologue...

The nice thing is, the game makes sure that every child wins. It keeps track of where each child should be on the board and it allows a couple of misses before it gives the answer. And though my son knows his phonics so well, the game allows him the opportunity to test his knowledge, he has to think about the answer. I think it is nice also, because a single child can play alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, September 15, 2005
This review is from: The Letter Factory Game (Toy)
My 5 year old daughter received this game for Christmas. She loves it and so do I! Not only is she learning her letters and letter sounds, but it is so fun to play! I love that she doesn't have to read anything to know what to do or how to play. Whenever I have a gift to give someone in the 3-6 year old age range it's my favorite gift to give.

There's no way to skip Quigley's whole monologue with every letter. One active 5-yr. old boy thought it was "boring". His 3-yr. old brother played for a while, but also lost interest.
2.) The harder level of play asks for matching letters to letter sounds (which my kids can do) and also asks "What letter comes before B?" (which my kids totally don't understand.) The easier level of play asks kids to get a certain color of card, and then move forward a certain number of spaces. Too easy for the 5-yr old, but it works well for my 2-yr. old if I help move the marker.
3.) I lost a letter card from my set, and was thrilled when I called customer service and they offered to send a whole replacement set of cards! Several weeks later, I called back... found out the cards aren't in stock and they'll send them when available... I've been waiting THREE MONTHS now for a replacement set (although I'd be happy just to have the one missing card!)

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves it., September 19, 2005
This review is from: The Letter Factory Game (Toy)
Great game! Since the game is narrated by the computerized "letter factory" it requires the child (and adult) to listen in order to continue play. It also reinforces pre-reading, counting, color, and matching skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daughter loves it!, October 10, 2005
This review is from: The Letter Factory Game (Toy)
We got this game because our daughter became obsessed with her letters. At 2 yr old, she loves it, participates and it is easy enough for her to play at both levels. Professor Quigley does talk a lot so the game takes a while to play but it also helps us practice our patience and listening skills. Would highly recommend!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic learning game, December 28, 2004
This review is from: The Letter Factory Game (Toy)
My 3 and 5 year old love this game. When we opened the box the letter Z was missing and with one phone call they are now sending a full pack of letters which is great becasue we will have spares, and with kids spare parts are all ways a plus. The machine sounds the letters and it is also played by colors so it reasures my 3 year old with sounds, colors and letters. She is learning whilst haveing fun! As a parents you can't beat that.

Every preschooler that I have shown the Leap Frog videos too is addicted and learns their letter sounds! This game is a wonderful addition with the same characters and familiar phrases and sounds from the videos. I cannot recommend this enough!!!! My daughter NEVER showed an interest in letters and sounds until the video and game!!! Kids from 3 and up will enjoy these!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!!!, February 17, 2005
This review is from: The Letter Factory Game (Toy)
My son, who just turned 3 LOVES,LOVES,LOVES this game! He can play by himself or with us and he runs around the house singing his phonics sounds! We got him the LeapFrog Fridge Phonics last year to help him learn his letters, but once we got him the Letter Factory DVD, he really caught on and can play this at Level 2 providing he pays attention. Fully interactive, he can repeat the question with a push of a button and has several tries to answer correctly. Also, the game keeps track of each player and seems to advance everyone so they stay fairly close together. I also like that it continues past the first "winner" and lets the other players finish and win. This game is absolutely the bast of all the other we got him!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for all the kids, February 27, 2006
This review is from: The Letter Factory Game (Toy)
We purchased this game for my just-turned 5-year-old. He loves to play both levels. His almost 4-year-old friend enjoys limited play, and a 2-year-old loves just looking at the cards, calling out the letters, and playing with the plastic figures.

A couple of the letter sounds are very similar, but it is teaching Alec to listen carefully and not get discouraged if he gets an answer wrong the first time.

It is also nice that there is no one "winner." Anyone who reaches the "winners" square is a winner.

My son sometimes just randomly calls out letters and the sounds they make. Very good for getting him ready for school in a few months.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great learing game, August 6, 2005
This review is from: The Letter Factory Game (Toy)
We got this for our son to learn his alphabet and he seems to love to play it. He asks to play it several times a day. We like that it has two levels of learning. I have found that several times when the correct card is put into the machine it does not understand the card and says it is wrong. I found this on a constant basis with 3 or 4 cards.
