5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressive positive reinforcement
I bought this Leap Frog product for my 6 year old twins they are learning to add in school and having some problems. They enjoy this product so much that they are learning without even realizing it. We make a game out of it and pass it around in a circle with the whole family. I like how it has a quiz and learn it were it teaches the child the addition tables. It...

3.0 out of 5 stars Wish it had a volume control
My five year old enjoyed playing with this, but there were several problems. Most importantly, it is just too loud, and it has no volume control. My spouse has since hidden it away somewhere, and I don't expect it to ever appear again. Secondly, after a few hours of play (over a couple weeks), two of the dial switches became flaky, e.g., dialing random-quiz would...

My five year old enjoyed playing with this, but there were several problems. Most importantly, it is just too loud, and it has no volume control. My spouse has since hidden it away somewhere, and I don't expect it to ever appear again. Secondly, after a few hours of play (over a couple weeks), two of the dial switches became flaky, e.g., dialing random-quiz would instead select learn-it mode, or dialing a number would select the wrong number. Changing to fresh batteries did not help, though shaking it sometimes did. In fact, just before it was banished the switches seemed to be functioning properly. Lastly a minor complaint, the big button on the end has to be pressed firmly and in the center. There was some frustration when an answer was missed because the button was not hit in just the right way. We own two other Leap Frog toys, Little Composer (volume control) and Phonics Learning System Think & Go (not as loud) and have been very happy with them, so the Twist & Shout was a disappointment.

I rate this very high I will buy the multiplication and the pro reader for my children

4.0 out of 5 stars great toy for kids - a bit loud, May 30, 2000

We got this for my son for Christmas a couple of years ago. He is pretty bright and loves things like this. It's a great toy, but the volume is too loud. My husband took it apart and put some cotton balls in it and now we can live with it. It was so loud that it was impossible for him to use in the car, because it bothered everybody else. Other than the volume, it's a great toy.

This is a wonderful way to teach your on-the-go type kids their math facts! My daughter is hyperactive and very difficult to sit and "teach" her to memorize math facts: but the Twist and Shout is the perfect answer! She loves to dance to the beat, and the repetition results in learning in a fun way. Her math grades are up a whole letter in just a few months! A MUST HAVE for any parent who wants to see their child enjoy learning math!

Repetition, repetition, repetition. Excellent! My daughter has learning challenges and LOVES this "toy." Although she has the addition facts down, she was having difficulty recalling them quickly. With this game she can play when she wants, miss some answers and still protect her "ego", jazz around the room "showing off" her skills, and have a great time. A bit of rythm, a little skippy tune, a friend to challenge and correct. Great idea! I haven't tried the add-on, but am considering purchasing it. Without the add-on it is self contained learning fun that helps improve skills and encourage additional learning.

I purchased this item in September as a Christmas present for my son. When it was opened last Christmas it didn't work, number dials don't respond and constantly responds as though dials are always set to 8 and 2. Inserting fresh batteries made no difference. If you purchase this product I would suggest opening it right away as the manufacturer warranty is good for only 3 months from the purchase date.

I bought this for my son for his 4th birthday. I read a few reviews that had said it didn't work when it was opened but figured I would take my chances. My son had played with a different turbo twist game and really enjoyed it so I thought he would love it. I didn't realize it when he opened the toy, but when it is set on the loudest setting (which isn't very loud at all) the voice skips continuously and you cannot understand anything it says. He hardly uses it at all...

My 5 and a half year old son just loves this. We bought it for him for Christmas and he loves it .....A lot of people say that it is loud but it really isn't it does have a volume control right beside the display of the number!

This is excellent for learning! He will be getting the subtraction one for his birthday in Feb.

5.0 out of 5 stars MATH MUST HAVE, April 2, 2005
My twin six year old daughters fight over playing with this handheld game and within a day they have learned the basic facts for 0, 1,2, and doubles. They've even challenged themselves with the lightning round and have gotten at least 8 points out of that!
This is a must have for a child learning their addition basic facts. This would make a great gift for a child between the ages of 5-7.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give this to your kids instead of uneducational games, January 1, 2008

My son received the Twist & Shout Addition several months ago after he turned four. It really made him interested in learning how to add and his step-grandpa who is a teacher was really impressed with his mathematical ability!

I got a version that has volume control (it actually has three volume settings) and headphones can be plugged in as well, so noise isn't much of an issue with it. It has a feature where you turn the dials to add any two numbers and it will give you the answer. I was afraid that my son wouldn't learn how to add, that he will just memorize the answers but what happened was that he was curious as to how the answers came about, so he asked to learn how to add! He's still only four and he can add pretty well, he can add up to the twenties!

I recommend this product over uneducational toys that don't encourage thinking and/or creativity.
