2.0 out of 5 stars LeapMaker 5-D Optical High-res Wheel Mouse
After reading the reviews of others about this product, I decided that I would give it a try, see how it went. I plugged in the mouse and it seemed sluggish, but I quickly figured out how to adjust the resolution with the button on the top of the device. I have to say I was very happy in the improvement of my gaming and general mouse usage. After about 3 weeks, I noticed...

This mouse is, in short, excellent. I was looking to buy a "quick" mouse that I could add to my collection and I also needed it to work well with graphics design and the like. I found this one and was attracted to the price as well as the features that it claimed to offer. I figured for around ten bucks (including shipping) I couldn't go way too wrong. In the territory of graphics design you have extremely high resolution interfaces and I needed a mouse that could handle the work and not be too slow or too jittery. I found what I was looking for.

The mouse has 4 settings that can be switched with the button directly behind the scroll wheel. You have the options of 400, 800, 1200, and 1600 dpi. I use the 1200 dpi setting and have the tracking speed in the system preferences to one notch above the lowest setting. This provides that I achieve maximum precision and also that I don't feel as though my mouse is moving sluggishly.

The mouse has 5 buttons, but I was disappointed when I figured out that 3 of the buttons have the same function (middle click) and cannot be changed.

Another great feature about this mouse: the scroll wheel is translucent and inside the mouse is a small light that stays green when the mouse is idle and glows a bright red when it is moved. I think this is very cool.

Also I'm on a Mac and haven't had any trouble whatsoever.

All in all, this mouse is, in short, excellent. I have a rather large collection of other mouses and after receiving this one today I'm beginning to suspect that it is my favorite. I highly recommend it. And, if you don't like it, hey! You only spent 4 bucks on it.

2.0 out of 5 stars LeapMaker 5-D Optical High-res Wheel Mouse, October 7, 2010

This review is from: LeapMaker 5-D Optical High-Resolution Wheel Mouse (400-1600 DPI) (Electronics)
After about 3 weeks, I noticed the occasional "tremble" of the cursor on the screen, even though my hand was moving in a steady, smooth motion. I gave it little thought, attributing it to my cheap mouse pad. Then it grew a bit more frequent. At some point between weeks 4 and 5, the mouse completely ceased to function. I tested it on my other computer and the result was the same. I heard the sound that signifies Windows had detected it, but I could not move my cursor or even click the mouse on the screen. I consulted Leapmaker about the problem and they directed me to pursue the returns policy on their Amazon.com site. As it turns out, you can't return it after 21 days. In short, this mouse left me up a creek without a paddle. However, if you feel like trying your luck at the risk of $9, be my guest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Mouse at Great Price, February 22, 2010

I've been using this mouse for about a month and it's working out great. It comes with all the standard mouse buttons including a mouse wheel that also functions as a button. It also has a nifty DPI button in the middle that you can push and it makes the mouse sensitivity go up or down on the fly. Each time you press the button it cycles between one of four settings but you can't change them. I haven't found a way to change the settings, anyway, and there's no software CD that comes with the mouse. Also, the two buttons on the side (the forward and back buttons) feel kind of cheap and are somewhat hard to press if you don't have the perfect thumb position.

Overall, though, I'd have to say that it's incredibly hard to find a mouse this good at such a low price. I saw some other mice on Amazon for around thirteen dollars and they didn't even have a wheel so I settled for this one and I haven't regretted it.

I took a chance on a non-Brand name mouse and I was pleasantly surprised. This mouse is really good quality and feels pretty good in my hand. The DPI button is really useful.

I am using this mouse on Ubuntu 9.04 and I have no issue. Like previous review the 3 of the 5 buttons are middle click.

This mouse is a great mouse for the price. Has customizable buttons and works very smoothly. I used this to travel with and that would be my only complaint. The wire coming out of the mouse and to the USB connection is pretty thin and flimsy. After 4 months mine now works intermittently. That said this is not advertised as a travel mouse so I used it for something it technically was not advertised for. Aside from that the mouse fits very well in your hand. Extremely comfortable to use and is lighter than most full size mice.

Nice little 5 button mouse for laptop gaming. I wanted a smaller mouse with 5 buttons for this purpose, was also reasonably priced. Great value for the money, also features adjustable DPI.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME MOUSE, December 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LeapMaker 5-D Optical High-Resolution Wheel Mouse (400-1600 DPI) (Electronics)
I was having huge problems with all the mice I bought, as I spend a lot of time on the computer--then I ran across this one. For the price, I was skeptical, but all the reviews raved about it, so I thought, why not? It can't be worse than the others. And I was right...it makes most other mice look like trash.

First, it has five buttons total on it: the regular right- and left-click, and a node just behind the scroll wheel to change the mouse sensitivity. Since it comes with no directions, you sort of have to fool with it to figure out the setting that's right for you, but it's very convenient if you need to change the sensitivity on a moment's notice. Then, on the side next to the thumb rest, there are two arrow buttons, one up and one down. Most people who reviewed claimed that they either did nothing or just acted as a right-click. For me--running Windows 7 on a brand-new computer--it works as a Forward and Back button in my Firefox browser. I stumbled across it by accident when my thumb slipped. I don't really use it, as the placement of the arrow buttons is a little awkward and hard to get to (particularly the up key), but it's a neat idea all the same.

The grip is comfortable, and the scroll wheel is illuminated, which is cute. It fits perfectly in my palm, which might make it a bit small for some male buyers with bigger hands, but for me, it's perfect. If it ever wears off, I'll buy another one immediately. I highly recommend this, to anyone looking for a good, reliable mouse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, great service, September 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LeapMaker 5-D Optical High-Resolution Wheel Mouse (400-1600 DPI) (Electronics)
I purchased this mouse because I needed an inexepensive 5 button mouse for work. It certainly does the job, although the side button for Forward and Back are pretty stiff, and I do not seem to be able to re-assign their functionality in Windows 7. The resolution switching works wonderfully, and the button is out of the way so it doesn't get accidentally pressed (had this problem with my last mouse). Shipping was super fast, I received my product in good working order, no scuffs or other damage.

Really my only complaint with this product is the side buttons. They work, but can be pretty tough to press, and I wish I could switch the Forward and Back functionality.

Unfortunately, this mouse is not quite what I was looking for, but it will make an awesome spare for gaming, and will definitely tide me over until I can get the mouse I want.

I highly recommend this product for anyone looking for an inexpensive mouse, especially if you like/need resolution switching. But, if (like me) you absolutely depend on the comfortable use of the 4th and 5th mouse buttons, you may want to keep looking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive for the cost., August 30, 2010
This review is from: LeapMaker 5-D Optical High-Resolution Wheel Mouse (400-1600 DPI) (Electronics)
I would first like to commend Leapmaker for making such a nice "cheap" mouse. For less than 10 dollars you can get this nice looking, nice feeling, option loaded mouse. On a side note, after a few days of purchasing this mouse I had a problem getting it to work, I'm not certain as to why but suddenly none of my computers would recognize it. I contacted Leapmaker and they promptly e-mailed me back letting me know where I could return the item and that they would replace it. For whatever reason the mouse works now and has worked for weeks. So for now I'm chaulking it up to something I may have been doing to prevent this mouse from working early on, and even if this is not the case I certainly cannot fault leapmaker who offered to replace it.

You will enjoy this mouse and my wife has commented on how well it works. I currently use this mouse to play Day of Defeat: Source on my computer and it works well, the different DPI options that are available by pushing the small button behind the wheel is nice and the ability to use one of the additional buttons for "crouching" or "reloading" is perfect for a gamer.

Overall a commendable product for the price, if you have a budget yet are looking for a decent mouse - don't pass this one up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good, August 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LeapMaker 5-D Optical High-Resolution Wheel Mouse (400-1600 DPI) (Electronics)
I've not had the mouse more than a month or two but it's surprisingly good. I tend to go through mice faster than a cat's teeth if you catch my drift (my mice are constantly breaking, because I like to only spend $5 on them). Anyways, The price is right and it's pretty comfortable. It's a good size, and it's pretty ergonomic. I don't really use any of the fancy buttons so I can't comment on how useful they are. The middle one under the mouse wheel changes the sensitivity, which might be useful for some PC games at times. Anyways this isn't the best mouse I've had but it's much better than your average $5 mouse. I'd buy it again.
