5.0 out of 5 stars Great learning book for 3-4 yr olds
After reading many reviews from others who rated this book, I was skeptical about getting it for my 3 1/2 yr old son. I am sure glad I did! My son already knew how to say the alphabet, but was still learning the letters and recognition that would help him one day to read. This book is great because it has a letter on every page and a game that goes with it. Everytime...

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst of the LeapFrog books so far
I just bought the LeapPad for my daughter. While many of the books have lots of varied activities on each page, this one was a real disappointment. The activity is exactly the same on each page (one for each letter of the alphabet) and consists of just finding the letters that surround the picture of an animal on each page. I just bought the LeapPad for my daughter. While many of the books have lots of varied activities on each page, this one was a real disappointment. The activity is exactly the same on each page (one for each letter of the alphabet) and consists of just finding the letters that surround the picture of an animal on each page. Any 2 or 3-year old could do it, and it gets very tiresome for all 26 letters. Skip this one!

I like the Leap Pad and I like most of the Leap Pad books we have. If I had all of the other Leap Pad books that were directed towards my son, I'd consider getting this one. However, this is not one I'd put on my must have list.

It is not a horrible book, however I don't find it educational nor do I think it's particularly fun.

My little three year old is really getting into doing his leap pad and this is one of his least favorite books. He will start at page one and stop around page five. I think this is because the activity is the same for each page.

On each page there is a picture and around the picture are capital and lower case letters and the activity is to find all of the a's for example around the picture.

Things do happen when you click on the picture you get little sounds. And today, and I'm not sure how, my son was clicking on some letters and it would give the sound of the letter- that was nice. The pictures are cute. The little poems/limericks (?) under each picture are funny, although the humor gets lost on my son most of the time.

This could have been done better.

My son already knew how to say the alphabet, but was still learning the letters and recognition that would help him one day to read. This book is great because it has a letter on every page and a game that goes with it. Everytime you press it, it says what letter it is. This helps a younger child learn by seeing that letter what letter it is. I would recommend this book for 3-4 yr olds who do not yet know their alphabet by sight. This book would probably be boring to a child who already does, however since all that is covered it the alphabet.

This is my 4 year old's favorite leap book. She loves the song it plays for the letters and finding the lost letters. I love the games that help reinforce sequencing of the alphabet, letter recognition and sounds. I would recommend this book to all children learning their ABC's.

This toy has entertained my son for hours. He is in kindergarten now and these toys hit on just the concepts they are learning in school such as the sounds of the letters and short vowel sounds. It combines his love of anything electronic with learning. I plan to get more of them.

2.0 out of 5 stars 4 year old not interested - too basic, March 2, 2004

My son is 49 months - he has already started pre-k and knows his basic letters - so this book was really booring for him and each page only had 2 activities -find the letter ....(only 2 letters per page) which were not very challenging. This book is bettered geared for infants who are just learning the letters as in the nursery - I think he would have been more interested then. I bought the Leap goes Shopping - which is delightfully interesting and challenging for him,it is multi-task, multi senosry and includes identifying in games - letters, shapes, colours, lots of sounds and noises. etc. We also got the Toy Story II which is a smashing hit with him - and it has challenges for him now until age 6 or so - per tuff stuff - but there are levels to choose.
Therefore, I would recommend Leaps friends A-Z for infant beginners like 2 - 3 year olds but not for a 4 year old - too boring.

My grandson is 5 and getting ready for kindergarten. He has thoroughly enjoyed finding the hidden letters on each page and playing with the letter words. I was quite surprised when I saw that this had only three stars. It definitely rates higher than that for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the best choice, November 19, 2002
This review is from: LeapPad: LeapStart Phonics - "Leap's Friends A to Z" Interactive Book and Cartridge (Toy)
My son received this book last year for christmas when he was four. He was bored with it right away. A year later he rarely places this book in his leap pad. Hoping that the next few books we purchase will be more intriguing to him.

My daughters have several Leap Pad Starter Books, this one is their least favorite. The only time they will even look at it, is if I have placed it into the LeapPad Book and started a game...the same, boring game for each letter of the alphabet. Go with the other books first. You aren't missing anything by not buying this book. Try Tad Goes Shopping or Birthday Surprise; these books will hold your child's attention a lot better.
