Great toy!,

I was looking for a mirror for my 3 month old and I came across this one. She loves it to this day!! When you press the frog in the middle it sings "I look in the mirror and what do I see? I see sweet, little wonderful me!" and if you press it again you hear "big bright eyes, cute button nose, tiny little fingers and tiny little toes" and if you press it once again it sings "round little cheeks and cute little ears, a cooing voice that mommy hears!" And then you have "Red Crab", "Orange Lion", "Purple Elephant", "Blue Hippo", "Yellow Starfish", etc. We LOVE this toy as you can probably tell ;)

Great but too loud!,

This is a really neat mirror with cute songs and sounds. It is easy for even my 4 month old to get the little tails to make the animal sounds. Haven't tried to hook up an MP3 player yet. The problem I have is that it is way too loud for my baby's ears, especially since he is so close to it because he is looking in the mirror and trying to chew on the tails. I have not been able to find the speaker so I could try to tape over it to make it quieter because it is closed up too well. I will keep trying but I really think they should put a volume switch on it and then it would get 5 stars from me.

Not worth the price tag,

I bought this for my daughter when she was about 3 months old and thought it would be good for tummy time. I picked this specific mirror over other (cheaper) ones because it said on the box that it can stand on its own, but it constantly toppled over. The talking was also a bit too startling for my baby (it is very loud and there is no volume control). I ended up returning it.

Not all I had hoped for,

I bought this product looking for a floor mirror for my 3 mo. old daughter to play tummy time. Unfortunately the mirror is a little high off the floor so she can't actually see herself in it when she's on her tummy holding her head up. Also there is no volume control and the voices are a little loud and startling for her. I gave this 2 stars because it's colorful, and at least my 2 1/2 yr. old son likes to play with it. I think I will just go get a floor length mirror and prop it up horizontally against my entertainment unit like I did when my son was a baby. He loved that and it worked way better than this toy!

Great "tummy time" toy for young babies!,

I was having the hardest time getting my baby to enjoy his "tummy time" until I discovered this toy!
At 10 weeks old, my son enjoyed just laying on his tummy and looking at the brightly-colored tags while i pushed them for him. By 12 weeks old he started noticing the handsome baby in the mirror, too! And now, at 15 weeks old he is starting to push on the tags himself and is surprised when they make noises at him. Without this toy, my baby simply will not tolerate tummy time! I do have a couple complaints, though: 1. There is no volume control on it; the sounds are very loud and hurt even my ears when we're laying close to it. 2. The tags are sometimes difficult to activate for ME, which means my infant son has a tough time doing it himself. 3. The velcro on the back needs to be longer so that it can be angled downward more so that my son can see more of himself in the mirror. Other than that, it's a perfect toy, and despite it's shortcomings, it is still the best way I have found to make my son happy on his tummy! I even bought two more to give to friends who are having babies soon. Grade: A-

My son hates tummy time. Everytime we put him down he'd fuss and kick. His grandmother got him this for Christmas, and he'll spend a good 10 minutes (which is a record for not complaining about being put down in general)pushing himself up to talk to the 'mirror baby'.
The ONLY thing I'm not crazy about with this toy - the buttons in the tags are a little hard to activate. You have to find just where the right spot is to make the noise. If I have to poke around, I'm sure it's a little more frustrating for a 4 month old!

Not very durable,

A friend gave this to our baby as a dedication gift in early September when he was 2.5 months old, he liked it when big brother (3yrs old) would make the various animal sounds activate and play the song (which we do like, very sweet, and it's what keeps this review at a 3 instead of a 2). However, it is now early December (less than two months later) and while baby still likes the toy and is able to sometimes activate the tabs himself (but not with a high enough success rate that he seems to have associated the sound with his action yet - see below), the orange one has stopped working. I wouldn't be surprised if it stopped working from him drooling/mouthing on it (the orange one is the only one that doesn't feel waterproof and the textures of the others just beg for a baby to mouth on them).
Also, there's no way a baby would be able to figure out how to get the song to play - *I* only found it on accident and had trouble getting it to activate until I figured out exactly where to squeeze. The tag things could be more sensitive/larger contact area (the part that will actually activate the sound is about 1cm square, situated approximately in the middle of the curved part of the tab, too far back to be activated from mouthing I think) for little ones to have greater chance of success with hitting with their random bopping movements at my baby's current developmental stage (just turned 5 months old, able to lift head and upper-chest off the floor while reaching for the tags so he can see himself in the mirror at the same time). I expected better from this brand, having purchased LeapPad products for my goddaughters about 7 years ago now and appreciating the quality and innovation in that product at the time. I agree with the other reviewers that it is also too loud for the distance a little one is from the toy. I haven't tested out the MP3 functionality yet, but be aware that you will need a thumbdrive sized MP3 player to use this - the pocket where the player is supposed to be stored away from baby would have difficulty closing over an "old-fashioned" cassette tape. We have an MP3 player that fits, but it's not powering up for some reason so I can't test that feature. Being able to control the volume from the MP3 player could help with the volume issues but I can also see how it would be a pain to turn the MP3 player on and off (the connection is just a headphone jack, it will not enable the tabs to control the functionality of the MP3 player or anything like that). Overall, not something I'd particularly recommend but OK as a gift from someone who doesn't read these reviews ;)

We only used this as a floor mirror, but our daughter loved the "tails" and animal heads. They're great for grabbing! We had a problem with several of the tails not working after a while, but Sassy provided a replacement at no cost. The only thing that might have improved this is for grabbing the animal heads to make sounds too. I guess that might be asking a bit much and this is a good product even without that....

Best Baby Mirror!,

I bought this mirror for my, now four month old, daughter right before she was born; on the recommendation of my sister who had purchaced one, for her then 4 month old. My daughter and her son both LOVE this mirror, it attaches to the crib well, or stands up quite sturdily on its own. Its been great for tummy time, she loves to push the "Tails" and listen to the animals "Talk," and loves to look at herself in the mirror. We have also enjoyed the MP3 function of this mirror. It keeps the ipod out of the baby's reach, but allows us to listen to baby music at play time, or before bed

Mirrors are great for babies and recommended as a good source of entertainment during the early stages of development. I like this mirror because of the bright colors, different textures, soft frame, ability to make sounds and overall "baby friendly" looks. Unfortunately, that's where it ends. Like other reviewers, I was disappointed with the lack of a volume control as it is too loud. The large, textured pads to activate the animal sounds are great, but the actual contact point to make the noise is so small even I have a hard time doing it sometimes. My daughter was very attracted to the puffy animal faces along the edge of the mirror. It would have made sense to have the noise activation buttons inside these rather than having the tabs at all. I don't think my daughter ever purposefully was able to make the noises happen (by accident, yes). I didn't find out that the Leapfrog character in the middle even had a button in it except by accident. It plays a nice song with baby noises in three segments, but again, the button isn't indicated by anything visible. Agreeing with the other reviewers again with regard to the angle of the mirror. The velcro isn't long enough to get a good angle for a baby that can't sit up (or hold their head up) yet. It is floppy and awkward for a baby to hold on its lap as well.
Again, I think the ideas are there...they just need to be designed a little better in version 2.0 |
