This review is from: Leapfrog Tag National Geographic Kids: Activity Cards - Land Animals (Toy)
Our five year old and three year old have gotten a lot of mileage out of the tag since we bought it. The books seem to get a little old after awhile but the animal cards have kept them rolling. One of the best features to the cards are the animal sounds. They love to tap the card with the monkeys... over and over and over again. Not recommended for parents that find repetitive sounds annoying. For me it's great, anything that keeps them occupied for 15 minutes is good in my book.

My four-year-old son loves animals. I thought that this Tag toy might be his favorite (probably behind the T Rex book). I have been surprised to see that he is not really that drawn to it. If I get it out, he is happy to learn about the animals, but it is rarely his idea. (He likes Ben 10 and the Pirate books significantly better.)

The cards are heavy duty (thicker than card stock). They are bound together very securely. As a result, even my son cannot harm this toy!

Each animal has two sides of a card. One side has the animal making its noise. (This was the most interesting part for me, as I had never known the sounds of many of the animals. For example -- do you know what a panda bear sounds like??) The other card contains a few intersting tidbits about the animal. It also states whether it is a mammal, reptile, bird, etc., and whether or not it is endangered.

This product is not nearly as entertaining or educational as the Leapster game Animal Genius. (Animal Genius is one of the best Leapster cartridges.) These cards contain a lot less information, and they are not in a game format. That being said, it is a pleasant and educational Tag product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very neat and educational, December 24, 2008

My girls love animals and learning about them. This is so much fun for them and they play with it all day long. It has several pages and on each one are two pages on each type of animal. one side gives a picture of the animal with the name and the other page gives a couple facts and where the animal lives and if it is endangered or not. It also tells if it is a reptile or Amphibian, ect. Very informative.

This is another something different from the books and so educational even for adults. These Activity Cards are tab together so you don't have to worry about picking up all the cards all the time.
Great Gift Idea!
Leapfrog needs to come out with something NUMBERS to go with this Tag System!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tag Reader Activity Cards, December 22, 2008

This is an amazing idea. It seemed strange at first that you had to twist the card to the top and that the second half information is on the card below it. However, You get used to it quickly. My daughter loves everything about these cards (we have both sets). It made traveling so much easier! I don't think we would have made a 10 hour car trip in one day without the use of these cards. Thanks LeapFrog! During that vacation, we went to the zoo and she was able to tell me details about most of the animals and the sounds they make. I learn something new from these every time she plays with this set.

My 7 year old is fascinated with all things science. Combine that with animals and she is in nerd heaven.

These were a gift for her, as we already had the Leapfrog TAG. She will sit for an hour listening to the facts about each animal, why they are almost extinct and if they are dangerous or not. She will run into our room and share the most exciting facts with us.

It certainly has expanded her knowledge and kept her interest for many months.

My son loves animals. So this is a great addition to our Tag collection. I love the fact that everything is kept together nicely, and both sides of the cards have fun facts and information! I love the fact that the information is different than what is "commonly" known. Plus, they are soooo durable! My son has tried to bend them, and it's didn't work! Score for Leapfrog!!

I keep these cards and a Tag reader in my purse. They are great! I use them to occupy my son (4) and nephew (4) when we are out and about. They are a bit heavy in a purse, but sooo handy. They are durable and yet, so convenient. They wipe clean so easily that I don't have to worry about them getting dirty or spilling something on them when we are out to eat. I love that they are bound together and won't end up all over the house or car.

I love all the details of the animals. Each animal has two cards. On one card is the animals name and a photo. The second card has misc. info, another picture, the continent that the animal is typically found, it's endangered status, and which part of the animal kingdom it belongs to. There is a bold word on each card that, when clicked, tells you the meaning of that word. Examples: bioluminesent, hibernate, scavenger, parched. I do wish it would mix up the audio a bit to give it a little variety, but we still love them. I would highly recommend these cards to any child who has even a slight interest in animals.
