This book is excellent, because it was written and designed by a famous Egyptian calligrapher by the name: Mahmoud Sayyid Mahdi, and not by Tarek Mahfouz, who removed the original author's name and put his name instead. This book is available free on many Arabic website as a pdf file. Just google the author's name in Arabic.
Mahdi's book was published by ibn Sina publisher in Cairo, Egypt in 1997.
Shame on you Tarek!

Don't get ripped off. This is the work of another author that's been repacked. Tarek as always added his name as 'author'.

Buyer beware.

This is a good introductory book on the basics of Arabic calligraphy and the methods used in writing the 5 most common styles. The book title is in English, but the book text itself is in Arabic including all writing instructions. Although you can still learn something from the pictures, you will have little benefit if you can't read and understand Arabic.
It is puzzling to me why the cover of the book is not in Arabic.
The drawings are clear, the writing concise, and the coverage of styles broad and competent.
It is unfortunate to learn that the content is plagiarized, and I feel regret for buying this version of the book and supporting intellectual theft.
